Puttur, Mar 11: Reportedly, an astrologer had raped a girl on the pretext of foretelling her future. The incident happened when the girl along with her family members had approached the astrologer for collecting information about what stars hold for them and remedial action to address the problems faced by them. The incident happened at Bannur Nekkila here. The accused stands arrested and booked under the provisions of Protection of Children from Sexual offences Act.
It is said that the young astrologer invited the girl alone into his room and raped her. The accused happens to be Balachandra Acharya (34) from Bannur Nekila here. He is unmarried, and practices astrology. The couple living within the limits of the town had visited the astrologer along with their daughter on March 3, it is learnt.
After the astrologer answered the queries of the family members and suggested remedial action to wriggle out of problems, he is said to have asked the couple to sit outside when taking the girl inside his room. In their complaint filed in the town police station on Friday March 9, the parents of the girl said that Acharya had raped their daughter inside his room.
The police, who registered case, produced the accused in the case. He has been remanded to two weeks judicial custody.
