Damascus / Syria, Aug 17: Independence Day was celebrated with great patriotic fervour at the Indian embassy here, on Friday, August 15. Over 200 Indian expatriates and embassy staff participated in the event.

Indian ambassador to Syria, Mukhyopadhyaya, hoisted the Tricolour with the gathering saluting proudly. In his address, the ambassador highlighted the contents of the speech delivered by Indian President Pratibha Patil, bilateral issues of Syrian president, and his delegation's recent visit to India.

It’s significant that a large number of expatriates gathered at the Indian mission here despite  their regular duties in a show of  solidarity in celebrating their country’s Independence Day.  Snacks and beverages were distributed to all those present.
