Jaipur, Aug 18:
A day after the Gujarat police claimed a breakthrough in the Ahmedabad blasts probe with the arrest of 10 Indian Mujahideen activists, its Rajasthan counterpart detained eight suspects, including a MBBS doctor pursuing post graduation at the All India Institute of Medical Studies (AIIMS) in Delhi, across the state on Sunday.

Dr Anwar Hussein, who was detained in Niwai near Tonk, is the son of an ironsmith and is on a vacation. Police sources said Dr Anwar, who did his MBBS in Jaipur, is presently pursuing masters' degree in medicine (MD) at AIIMS.

Though senior police officers denied holding any person, police sources confirmed that eight of these suspects were brought to Jaipur for further interrogation on Sunday.

The state police's special operations group (SOG) detained these eight-persons, including Dr Hussein, from Kota, Baran and Tonk in connection with the Jaipur serial blasts, which claimed 68 lives, on Saturday night and Sunday afternoon.

The detainees from Kota include Ishaq Qureshi, a registered medical practitioner, his son Taufeer and their neighbour Nazakat Qureshi.

Taufeer created a furore in the police department on Sunday afternoon as he was initially mistaken for being the absconding former Wipro engineer Tauqueer Bilal. The Gujarat police have claimed that Bilal was one of the masterminds of the serial blasts that left 57 people dead in Ahmedabad on July 26.

On being contacted, Taufeer's family denied his involvement in the Jaipur blasts and said that he was pursuing Unani medicine from the BUMS University at Jaipur.

There were reports that Taufeer's brother Allauddin was also detained but the family denied this saying Allauddin was actually accompanying his father and brother who have been taken to Jaipur by the SOG.

The detentions in Rajasthan were made on the basis of information revealed by Salim, an accomplice of the Gujarat blasts mastermind Abu Bashir arrested from Azamgarh near Lucknow on Saturday.

Salim too was arrested from Uttar Pradesh by the SOG sleuths after preliminary investigations revealed that he was in Jaipur on the night of serial blasts here. "Salim revealed that he was a tenant of one Ishaq Qureshi in Kota for a long time," a senior police officer said.

"We do not know anything about Salim. He was our tenant for 4-5 months," Ishaq Qureshi's son Wasim said.

DIG (crime) Saurabh Shrivastava, who has been sent to Gujarat to look for connections, if any, between the blasts at Ahmedabad and Jaipur, told DNA that his team is yet to interrogate the 10 Indian Mujahideen (IM) activists arrested on Saturday.

Those detained from Baran on Saturday night included Riyaz, Abid Bhai Kapadewala and Wasim Kabadi, police sources said.

Half of arrested don't bear any ID (Because they're burnt) just to claim they're illegal immigrants / trespassers.
