Mangalore, Aug 18: The Mangalore CFC-Singles for Christ (SFC) team headed coordinators Melvyn and Neeta Fernandes, bagged the overall championship award for the third year in a row in the SFC national conference which concluded at Shanti Kiran Bajjody, here on Sunday August 17.

The conference ‘SFC Rediscovery’-Love Christ, Live Christ, Give Christ-was aimed at rediscovering oneself. The award came to SFC Mangalore for the third consecutive year, for excellence in various competitions like singing, band, dance, salad-making, essay writing, painting, and photography, as well as overall participation.

The three-day conference was inaugurated on Friday August 15. Fr Santhosh Rodrigues, director, Family Life Centre, as well as Alex and Lynette Serrao, area directors of Couples for Christ (CFC), Mangalore, were present on the occasion.

Bishop Aloysius Paul D’Souza of Mangalore made himself available to meet the SFC delegates at the conference venue on Friday evening and deliver his message. Tony Correa, director, National CFC, was present on the occasion. Pradeep Cornelio and Graham D’Souza of Mangalore bagged the ‘League of Extraordinary Singles’ for 2008. Gerald and Jane Castelino, heads of Family Ministry, Mangalore, also attended the conference.

Nearly 150 delegates from Margao, Panjim, Pune, Mumabi along with Mangalore participated in the conference. Tony Correa, Jerson James and Alex Serrao enlightened the delegates with their thought-provoking, God-centred talks.

SFC Mangalore had bagged the championship award in the conferences held at Goa in 2006 and 2007. The next national conference will be held in Pune, in September 2009.

About CFC-SFC

CFC-Singles for Christ was established in 1993 as a ministry to single, young professionals of Couples for Christ, headquartered in Manila, Philippines. Although it grew slowly at first, CFC-SFC gradually expanded into areas already established by CFC, and established its own SFC mission areas. By 2005, CFC-SFC had over 200,000 members worldwide. CFC-SFC now has a worldwide membership of 300,000.

Like the rest of the CFC Family Ministries, CFC-Singles for Christ is established in an area side-by-side with Couples for Christ. CFC-SFC members are organized into Household cell groups (a group of 10 to 12 singles), which are led by a Household Head. Multiple households form a Unit, multiple units form a Chapter, multiple chapters form a Cluster, and a Sector can be formed depending on the amount of clusters in the area.
