Beltangady, Aug 22: The continuous efforts of fire fighters paid result when fire that had almost engulfed a bullet tanker near Periyashanti here was extinguished late in the evening on Friday August 22.  Once the fire was overpowered, regular vehicular traffic was resumed on the road, much to the relief of thousands of commuters.

As reported earlier in these columns, the bullet tanker had caught fire on Friday morning, after a head-on collision with an Indica car near Valtaje bridge of Periyashanti here. Although the fire brigade reached the spot, they could do only a little to overpower huge flames emanating from the overturned tanker. However, once the gas from the container came to nil, fire fighters' managed to extinguish fire.

Earlier when the tanker was burning, fire fighters were busy pouring water over the container, so as to keep it cool, lest it would blast at anytime.

Sources informed that the bullet tanker that rolled on the NH after catching fire has now been towed beside NH by heavy duty cranes. The traffic between Sakaleshpur and Uppinangady has once again been restored to normalcy.
