Davangere, Mar 27: BJP National president Amit Shah has found himself in an embarrasing situation after he called his own party chief ministerial candiate B S Yeddyurappa as the most corrupt!
Speaking at a press meet in Davangere on Tuesday March 27, Shah said, "A retired judge of the Supreme Court had said, if there was a contest for the most corrupt government, the Yeddyurappa government would be number one."
In a bid to criticize CM Siddaramaiah, Shah mistakenly tongue-lashed calling Yeddyurappa the most corrupt. BJP leader Prahlad Joshi, who was visbly shocked at this, immediately corrected Shah.
Amit Shah quickly corrected himself, but maintained a poker face as if nothing had happened and continued with his speech without even apologising for the blunder.
The video of the faux pax has gone viral on social media. On a day the Election Commission announced the dates of the crucial Karnataka Assembly elections, this has come as an embarassment to the BJP.
The Congress was quick to latch on to the opportunity to hit out at the BJP. In a double-edged remark, AICC president Rahul Gandhi took digs at both BJP's Amit Malaviya who tweeted about election dates even as the CEC's press meet was going on, and at Amit Shah's slip of the tongue. "Now that the BJP IT cell has announced Karnataka elections, time for a sneak preview of our top secret campaign video! Gifted to us by the BJP President, our campaign in Karnataka is off to a fabulous start. He says Yeddyurappa ran the most corrupt Govt ever...True," he tweeted.
Amit Shah is on his two-day tour of the state, as part of his party's efforts to win back the Lingayat vote bank ahead of the Karnataka Assembly elections.
The elections will be held on May 12 and results will be declared on May 15.
