Mangalore: Vitla Pindi Celebrated with Enthusiasm and Gaiety

Mangalore, Aug 25: People of Dakshina Kannada district wholeheartedly immersed themselves in devotion and exuberance,celebrating Vitla Pindi, the festival denoting the childhood pranks of young Krishna, on Sunday, August 24.

Various cultural and religious programmes had been organised on the occasion all over the district. The idol of Lord Srikrishna was taken out in colourful processions at various places. The processions gained further glitter because of the presence of Huli Veshas and people donning various mythological characters. Competitions for children were also held.

























People could take part in these celebrations in large numbers, as it was Sunday and also as the rain stayed away from dampening their spirits. The 99th annual Vita Pindi, also known as 'Mosaru Kudike Utsava', was celebrated at Attavar in a grand manner, under the aegis of Sarvajanika Srikrishna Jayantyutsava Samiti, Attavar. The 39th annual Mosaru Kudike Utsava was organised by Srikrishna Janma Mahotsava Samiti, Kadri in the city.

Enthusiastic people took part in the processions that marked these celebrations, and felt happy in remembering the activities of Lord Krishna. Kavoor, Kottara, Tokkottu, Kumpala and Ashoknagar in the city besides Asaigoli and Konaje witnessed Vitla Pindi celebrations. The festival was also celebrated with grandeur at Kalladla.

A huge procession marked the occasion at Kalladka. Reports about similar celebrations have also come in from B C Road, Thumbe, Narikombu, Siddakatte etc., Sports and cultural competitions marked the celebrations at most of the places.  At Kukke Subrahmanya, Malekudiyas, the aboriginals of the place, celebrated the Mosaru Kudike Utsava by carrying the idol of Lord Srikrishna in a palanquin from the temple to Kashikatte. Pots of curds hung from high points on the route were broken by the enthusiastic women servants of the temple.
