Woman burnt, 12 Churches Razed During Orissa Bandh

Rediff / Agencies

Bhuvaneshwar, Aug 25: Two persons, including a woman, were burnt to death, a pastor critically injured and at least a dozen churches were torched during a 12-hour bandh called on Monday in Orissa by the saffron brigade in protest against the killing of Vishwa Hindu Parishad leader Laxmanananda Saraswati.

The woman was burnt to death when unidentified persons torched an orphanage run by a Christian organisation at Phutpali in Bargarh district, official sources said.

Twenty children, who were at the orphanage, managed to escape but a pastor suffered serious burn injuries in the attack, the sources said.

Another person, identified as Rasananda Pradhan, was burnt to death when his house was set ablaze at Rupa village in Kandhamal district where the VHP leader was gunned down along with four others on Saturday night.

Churches were attacked in Khurda, Bargarh, Sundergarh, Sambalpur, Koraput, Boudh, Mayurbhanj, Jagatsinghpur and Kandhamal districts as also in state capital Bhubaneswar, police sources said, adding 40 houses were set ablaze in Phulbani town.

As the body of Saraswati reached Chakapada in Kandhamal district for the last rites, nine shops and two vehicles were torched at Raikia while two jeeps were burnt by miscreants at Udaygiri.

Home Secretary Tarunkanti Mishra told media persons that he had been information about the two casualties.

Mishra said the bandh called by the Sangh Parivar was 'total and by and large peaceful'.

Be warned Government is creating another terrorist group out of compulsion for survival. It may not be far away with the present law and order situation when every person is taking law into their own hands!! And the Govt is a mute spectator!! GOD save the country.

India is facing religious extremism during and after independence. No government took action to uproot the fanatic forces that incite violence. Gandhi was killed, 500 year old mosque was pulled down, thousands of innocent people were torched, killed, raped even then only in this country the highest courts and the political spectrum have no courage to punish the perpetrators of such worst crimes of our times.

So called 'terror attacks' are the by-products and consequences of the crimes done in our society by the 'saffron thugs'. Do we need a parallel military or cultural police organised by the 'sangh pariwar' in a democratic country?

It is time that government stop it with strict measures or the future damages will be irreparable! Oh! my people where is your solidarity, peace, humanness to the fellow human beings? NO GODS CAN SAVE YOU WHEN YOU BECOMES SUCH CRUEL BEINGS!

What is left to comment on? When children begin their prime years of schooling all castes rush to Catholic schools for adimisions whether they get or not. If they do not get a seat they try bribery or influential people, if asked the reason they say Catholic schools give good values and good foundation. Where is everyone now. They want their children to grow with values. Where are their own values gone? Being Catholics even though 2% let us unite and stand up to this.

I am saddened by the indifference shown by the govt. towards the suffering innocent christians of Orissa. I am also horrified to the statement made by Mr. Praveen Togadia in a T.V channel that Christians killed Swami Laxmanananda. Has he any proof for this.

How can you say that Christians are doing forcible conversions when there is anti-conversion law in Orissa. People understand the good humatarian works of the church. As a result out of free will they appreciate the selfless service of the church. Let us create unity not division

How long it will go..?! Recently I read an article as follows:They killed a Jew and I didn't speak because I was not a Jew. They killed Christian and I reminded silent because I was not a Christian ! They killed a HINDU and I did not move because I was not a Hindu. They Killed Buddhist and I kept quiet because I was not a BUDDHIST. They Killed a Sikh and I didn't open my mouth because I was not a Sikh. They killed MUSLIM and I did not speak because I was not a Muslim.

Then they killed ME !! And no one spoke because there was NO ONE LEFT !! The truth is that this communal problem is neither a problem of Muslims alone as Hindus think nor is it caused by Hindus as muslim believe. This problem is a conspiracy against the nation itself. If something is not done about it immediately it will take the country to its ruins.

Firstly, its very sadening to hear that 85 year old Swami daynand sarswati and other 4 innocent people are killed by criminals. It is the state govt which is at fault because it never tried to nab the killers of the Hindu priest. This even after the fact that the priest was always under threat from some criminal groups for his stand against conversion groups and cow slaughter.

When the police cant nab the criminanls of such elederly person, the sang parivar groups are provoked to resort to arson and looting. They later brutelessley attack minorities for the criminal acts of some of its members.

Fully agree with the comments made by IMRAN, JUBAIL. Instead of uniting the community, the Sangh Parivar are dividing it as the common members does not understand the actual motto behind them. It is nothing but the higher caste's control of power and hidden agenda & the Dalits to serve them like bonded labourers for etnernity. Politically minorities should come to common platform and get united so that our Country will not be ruled by these fanatic group.

Now I am really ashamed to call myself an Indian- which is supposed to be a land of peace and religious harmony. Think of it: If India is a peaceful country, why are we the only country in the world who has either entered into war or have bad relationship with all countries bordering us? Every invader from the past chewed us - since basically the majority of the original population was weak. Now they want to prove that they are strong by being violent against minorities.

Wow! This is India. What is projected to the world and what we actually are are two different things.

Media Never call these people as a TERRORISTS? if it’s done by an Muslim or Muslim groups then they are named under terrorist label. which name media will give to this culprits who burnt 40 houses and women and attacked children of orphanage. it’s really sad and heart breaking news for all of us. Christians should be alert ,we have to show our unity by legal that’s through catching the thrown of the Govt, recently survey shows that if all Indian minorities like Christians and Muslims if they vote their community candidate and appoint their own candidates for Parliament, total it stands for more than 95 seats in parliament, now we have to decide if we want peaceful life in India.

Or else our indian political trend devide and rule will come to use for these culprits or traditional terrorists of india None Other Than RSS / VHP. We are in need of a SOUND ORGANIZATION to come under one group and fight against these culprits, nothing gonaa happen if we pray same like "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing." We pray all the times same and they will destroy us completely till no one is alive to pray like this.

The message that the killers want to give is simple that is Christians, stop reaching out to the down trodden in the name of Christ. Should we listen to them? As, since years, we have beeen sacrificing precious lives of our inocent brothers and sisters in the name of religion without retaliating a bit… shall we still carry on this way?

The pain that the family of the person who has given his life for Christ is tremendous and I say this by experience when I lost my priest uncle in the hands of such cold blooded killers………... let us ponder and come to a decision and act… Do we still want to die for Christ? This has been happening regularly since two decades now. There are christian groups other than Roman catholics who go extreemes in conversion. There are instances where Roman catholic believers who have started believing in these other christian sects.Hindus do think that all christians are rich and hence theirs is a cause of revolt.

The poor do not have proper education and they do not have a goal in life. These type of people are made to go fight against christians by Hindu fanatics which finally end up in destroying peace and harmony.

Christians it is time to build up an army for self defence than keep on saying Father forgive them for they do not know what they have done. I am sure when this really happens to our own selves we will not keep quiet but retaliate which is why America and other countries are spending millions on safety of their people. I am sure the coming of christ is nearing.

Do you think saying everytime when christians are attacked "God forgive them for they do not know what they are doing” is a solution to this scourge? Come on people wake up before it is too late. Until when you will use that forgiving strategy? Until then when there are no christians left alive to say that?

Dont you foresee the doom for Christians if these attacks and murders are not challenged physically. What would have happened of this world if it had kept quiet and said forgive hitler for he knows not what he is doing. Can you Christians imagine it? These people are no different than nazism. They think they are the only superior race on this world just like hitler had professed of germans.

It is high time for christians to foresee the danger to their existence in India and form militant groups and suicide squads to tackle these fanatics. Our strategy should be if you dont leave us to live in peace NOR would we allow you.

The day is not far when we Christians have to live under terror from these fascist parties if we watch as silent spectators the murder and attacks of our brethren taking place now.

Also Christians need to stop spreading hatred against Hindus, also sholud stop conversion. If we really have a kind heart we can help others but not by conversion. All people are same, religion doesn't give upperhand...only two religions created by GOD i.e. male & female.
