Mangaluru/Udupi: Two cases of unaccounted cash detected, Rs 7.4 lac seized

Mangaluru/Udupi, Apr 8: For the first time in coastal Karnataka after election code of conduct came into force in the state, two cases of transportation of unaccounted cash were detected and Rs 7.4 lac rupees in cash was seized. While Rs 2.9 lac was found from the city, Rs 4.5 lac was found from near the check post at Brahmavar.

Electoral officials and policemen found Rs 2.9 lac being taken in a car into the city. A person named Rajashekhara Andinje was bringing the said amount in his car to the city.

During the verification by officials at the check post at Pumpwell in the city, Andinje could not produce any documents in support of the cash but stated that it was meant for distribution to coolies. As the workers referred by him work at Beltangady and cash was being brought into the city, suspicion was aroused and cash was seized. The person was instructed to furnish proper documentary support towards this cash.

A total of Rs 4.5 lac was seized from near the check post near Sastan in Udupi district from two persons. Kundapur assistant commissioner and electoral officer, T Bhoobalan, remitted this money into the treasury. This seizure was made from a car belonging to a middleman working for a poultry farm, and a person running finance firm.
