Moodbidri: Mother-son duo killed in ghastly accident at Nellikar

Moodbidri, Apr 9: In an unfortunate accident which happened at Nellikar near here on Monday April 9 morning, a woman from Thirthahalli and her son died on the spot.

The accident happened when two cars collided with each other.

The victims have been identified as Somashekhar and his mother Ratnamma.

The accident happened at Pernodi within Nellikar gram panchayat limits on Hosmar connecting road in the taluk.

    Suzuki India's Omni is like 'Coffins on road'. If anyone raise RTI asking the Road and Transport authority about the number of accident involved this vehicle alone is numerous all over India.
    Unless US and EU, India has no prerequisite for accident test before release of vehicle for use. In India live humans are test subject unlike robots in the west.
    In a nation where more 5 lakh deaths takes place on road each year, value of human life is negligible. But toll gates are mandatory.

    @SMR karkala,it doesnt only depend on type of vehicles but the way one drives also a main cause.Some are almost fly on roads. some think they are simply on highways. Risky roads,overtaking ,less concentration,talking on phones during drive,too can be a cause of accidents.Previously we had less automobiles on roads,less deaths ,now people die more on roads than due to sickness.RIP .to both of them.

    since omni is light in weight it goes like a rocket on road..... if luck is not good and touches or lost control then death is certain.

    All accidents can be prevented if we follow the following steps
    Good training at driving schools
    Strict action on drunken driving
    Strict monitoring by traffic police
    Heavy punishment on people who drink
    And police must act and make driving safe. I feel very sad when i read about an accidnet

    Omni is not a car. It is just a box with an engine without any safety. You will live for the next ride only with your luck.In India just to keep the price affordable, companies have kept the safety standards very low. These cars don't pass any European safety standards because the compensation for the lost life is very high.In India value of human life is zero many a times.

    The problem lies with the outdated training which our drivers receive in our Driving schools. Most instructors themselves are poorly trained and can teach nothing more than changing gears and putting your hands outside the window to indicate a right turn.

    We need western trainers to retrain all our drivers and licenses should be issued to only those who pass driving tests.

    Motor Vehicle Act (Amendment) Bill 2017 is important due to radical changes in the law which is as old as 30 years. It proposes high penalties for various traffic offences, three-year jail for parents of minors drivers causing fatal accidents and a tenfold increase in compensation for families of accident victims. But, unfortunately apposition hell bent on not passing the act.

    Unfortunately in India, we do not give importance to safety. When the new rules are implemented for the safety of all, then vehicle owners and even unknown persons too join in protest not to implement the safety norms.

    If there would have been proper training for the drivers, vehicle safety norms, good road conditions, most of the accidents would have been saved.

    It is because of poor road safety regulations in India.
    1. No safety lines.
    2. Bribe and take the licence.
    3. Poor maintenance of vehicles
    4. corrupt police

    Here if the government comes up with such rules, they'll lose votes. Government does everything for sake of votes. Other countries have such stringent norms for vehicles... why not India?
