Mangaluru: Massive hailstorm during first rains affects crops in coast

Mangaluru, Apr 9: Several taluks across Dakshina Kannada witnessed a hailstorm on Sunday April 8. Belthangady, Puttur and Sullia witnessed hail stones raining down upon them.

The rain accompanied by thunder and lightning started in the late evening of Sunday in Venur, Hosangadi and Kukkedi region.

The locals got panicked seeing large ice chunks which rained down from the sky. Even the commuters struggled to move due to sudden intense hail that lashed the region.

The sudden hail storm also damaged the crops of the farmers.

A senior doctor from Venur Dr B P Indra said that this was for the first time Dakshina Kannada received intense hail storm.
