Puttur, Apr 11: In a successful operation, a team of policemen from Uppinangady station succeeded in taking into custody two inter-state robbers on Tuesday April 10. The gang used to threaten people inside their houses by flashing pistols, and rob gold, cash and other valuables from them. The gang is said to be involved with such robberies in places like Dharmasthala, Kedila, and Ichalampady. The police team worked under the guidance of Dakshina Kannada district superintendent of police(SP), Ravikanthe Gowda, to solve these robberies.
The arrested accused are Illyas (34) alias Abdul Razack and Nelson C V (30) alias Wilson Killanur from Thrissur Kerala.
On March 21 this year, robbers had barged into the house of Narayana Pillai, an ex-serviceman, at Ichalampady within the limits of Uppinangady police station, and robbing the family of cash and gold ornaments by threatening them with pistol and other lethal weapons.
During the course of investigation, the police found similarities in the current incident and also the robbery which happened during November 2017 at Dharmasthala in which Nagesh Prasad was robbed and the robbery which happened in December 2017 at Kedila in Puttur where Shivahankar Putturaya was robbed. The police found that finding out the culprits had been rendered difficult in all the three cases as the robbers, in an intelligent move, had desisted from making use of cellphones.
Under the guidance of the SP and deputy SP, a plan of action was drawn up to crack these cases. The criminal intelligence team headed by Uppinangady police circle inspector, Gopal Naik and sub-inspector, Nandakumar, worked hard and reached the conclusion that the robbers were of Kerala origin. The team kept all-round vigil and arrested Illyas and Nelson from Periyashanti in Kaukrady village here late night on Monday when the duo had come there to indulge in another criminal act. During police interrogation, both of them confessed to their earlier crimes.
The accused were produced in the court and six-day police custody was obtained in order to investigate and recover the items robbed by the duo. Uppinangady police under the leadership of Nandakumar has been succeeding in solving a number of criminal cases of late, and has come in for generous praise from the people.
