Bengaluru, Apr 12: Even as the opposition BJP and JD(S) are making determined efforts to defeat Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in his traditional assembly constituency of Chamundeshwari in Mysuru district, ruling Congress party leaders from North Karnataka have urged the latter to contest from the Badami assembly constituency in Bagalkote district.

If the Chief Minister contests from a constituency in Northern Karnataka along with his traditional seat in Mysuru district, it will send a strong message to the people of the region as they have been feeling neglected, the Congress leaders told the Chief Minister.

The Congress leaders from Badami in Bagalkote district met the Chief Minister and said that if he contests the polls from their region then it will benefit the party in north Karnataka.

KPCC Working President for North Karnataka S R Pail and and Badami MLA B B Chimmankatti called on Siddaramaiah in Bengaluru on Thursday and urged him contest from the Badami constituency.

There has been a speculation that Siddaramaiah might contest the polls from Badami besides Chamundeshwari from Mysuru district as the former Congress leader G T Deve Gowda, who was a staunch loyalist of the Chief Minister, had quit the party and joined the JD(S).

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister called on L Revanasiddaiah, retired IPS officer, at the latter’s residence in the city and sought the support in the coming elections.

Revanasiddaiah is an influential leader from the Lingayat community and Chief Minister’s son Dr Yatheendra, who is likely to contest from the Varuna constituency in Mysuru district, had recently called on his to seek his support.
Former Chief Minister and BJP State President BS Yeddyurappa’s younger son Vijayendra is tipped to be the party candidate from Varuna and had also met Revanasiddaiah.

The Congress party high command is expected to announce the first list of candidates in New Delhi either on Friday or Saturday.

Siddaramaiah would participate in the central election committee meeting of the party to decide the final list of candidates before its finalisation.
