Udupi: Private bus fares in undivided district to go up from April 16

Udupi, Apr 13: Bus fares of private buses across city, service, and express buses in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi district will go up by one to two rupees with effect from April 16.

President of Karnataka Bus Operators Federation, K Rajavarma Ballal, said that hike in bus fare will be one rupee per seat with effect form April 16 in view of steep hike in cost of operating transport industry.

"Last hike we affected was one rupee on December 28, 2016. Then, diesel price per litre was Rs 56.55 which has now reached Rs 65.80. Because of tough competition with government buses, private buses have lost 50 percent passengers," he claimed. He said that as per the notification issued by Karnataka government on July 31, 2013, there is provision to increase bus fares in the light of increase in prices of diesel, oil, lubricants, steel, taxes, salary etc.

Minimum fare for city buses will go up from seven rupees to eight. In case of services buses, minimum fare will be increased to nine rupees from the current eight. For express buses, the fare may go up to ten rupees. The fare will be hiked by two rupees wherever current fare is over Rs 20.

Ballal pointed out that tax has gone by up 50 percent and insurance premium has been hiked by 40 percent. "GST stands at 28 percent. Toll charges work out to Rs 750 to 800 per day. We have already approached the regional transport authority with proposal to hike fare as above in order to be able to run transport industry without suffering losses," he stated.

Hike in private bus fare will have adverse effect on political parties and voters during election time. But private bus owners point towards cost of operation that is going up,duly promising not to increase the fare if the prices of commodities are kept under control.

Deputy commissioner of the district, Priyanka Mary Francis, said that hike in private bus fares does not fall under the purview of election code of conduct norms but reminded the bus operators that they cannot increase fare without the approval of the regional transport authority.

    i feel private buses are better than Government buses. Because government bus charges are costlier than private buses.Government also increasing ksrtc fare as and when they require. For private buses if we give complaint some action will be taken But incase of govt buses if you give complaint on any issue no one will care. At present there is no diff in increasing bus charges for privte as well as govt buses. During peak season private as well as govt buses will increae almost 50 percent. Maintenance of private buses are better than govt buses.

    The Private bus owners are cheating the commuters regularly.
    1. They are not issuing tickets to the passengers.
    2. They are rash & rude. They do not give respect to passengers.
    3. They are always looting the passengers by taking the ticket amount higher than listed price.

    The Both district administration has failed to bring this type of looters under control. The state government should bring more KSRTC buses and protect passengers from the hands of looters.

    as said in the news, fare will be hiked from rs. 7 to 8, buses(not all, but some) plying from kadri to state Bank, they charge rs. 8 and if questioned conductor directly insults or says provide change. or they say fare has increased without issuing tickets and specially after 7 pm, conductor usually charges high.

    How much khangress got from this hike ? Govt should not have given permission for this hike as it is election time they could have a told to wait till May 15th and new govt takes the call.

    People should have commented for this news in more numbers than other news because it affects the middle class and the poor. But there are very less comments, but why? Here you know who are all commenting for other political news.... They are all the agents of political parties who are never bothered about the price rise or anything. But they compete one over the other for issues which are not concerning to common man....

    Can you imagine no one bothers about price rise, it clearly says no one travels by bus those who comment in Daijiworld news.

    Better to remove pvt bus service and put govt bus service. Pvt bus driver and conductor are care less people they are no-least bother about the passenger safety.

    PRIVATE BUSES ARE CHARGING RATES AT THEIR FANCY AND MAXIMUM CONDUCTORS DO NOT ISSUE TICKETS. EVEN THE CONCERNED AUTHORITIES ARE BLINDLY ACCEPTING THEIR FANCY ATTITUDE IN ISSUING TICKETS, RASH DRIVING, CAPACITY NORMS, RUDE BEHAVIOUR.
    THIS SEEMS HIKE IS FOR ELECTION FUND OF RULING PARTY IN STATE.

    While in Mangalore ..I travel by Govt bus or by Ola ..
    Private bus operators are not trained and do not have the public service attitude ..passengers are mere Number counts and are treated like objects and not as humans ,,
    Its time the public of mangalore wake up and stop using these dreaded private buses.Time to say good bye to this public evil

    People should start giving first preference to Gvt bus only..then automatically this fare will come down. most of the bus conductors and drivers are very arrogant..they don't have a manners to respect old ladies passengers and senior citizen using language like ' mitaleye poleye side poleye. UDUPI to Manglore express route there should be more Gvt buses.

    Rajavarma Balal being there since long time doing Lobby against the DEPLOY of NRUM buses on City roads ,If you cant do business with present fair ,keep the bus in your respective Garage ,Government NRUM bus gives good service in mangalore ,Hope to see Private City bus Vanish from our City.

    People have one more reason to go by government buses. Competition is not by govt buses but by private, who run just in front and take all passengers while govt buses run half full. What competition is he talking about ? Now, with the price rise, even if they run as per their monopoly, people will prefer govt buses.

    Very true, I agree with your comment.. Also, these drives of private buses consider that their buses like aeroplanes, for them these roads are runways, not helping old ladies/men when they get inside the bus. Steps of these buses are too high, we normal people cannot get in how about our old citizens, small kids etc. Can go in??
