Karnataka elections: India Today-Karvy Insights poll predicts hung assembly

From Our Special Correspondent
Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru

Bengaluru, Apr 13: Even as the ruling Congress party as well as the opposition BJP and even JD(S) are boasting of securing a majority in the ensuing assembly elections in Karnataka, the India Today-Karvy Insights opinion poll predicts a hung assembly in the State.

The opinion poll conducted just over a month before the high-stakes election in the State claims that no party will gain absolute majority.

The biggest takeaway from the Karnataka opinion poll is that no single party is expected to reach the magic number of 112 in Karnataka's 224-member assembly.

The Congress, which is currently in power in Karnataka, can hope to win between 90 and 101 seats in the election, according to the opinion poll.

The BJP, which is hoping to oust Congress from yet another State, will win between 78 and 86 seats, the opinion poll shows.

Going by the India Today-Karvy Insights opinion poll, H D Deve Gowda's JD(S) will be the kingmaker in Karnataka.

The opinion poll predicts that JD(S) and its pre-poll alliance partner, BSP, may win between 34 and 43 seats.

In terms of vote share, Congress will get 37 per cent of votes, the BJP 35 per cent and the JD(S)-BSP likely to get 19 per cent, the opinion poll shows.

Compared to how things currently stand in the Karnataka Assembly, the Congress will see its seat-share fall while the BJP will see its numbers go up.

The improved performance of BJP, however, is not likely to ensure the saffron party of an outright win in the Karnataka Assembly election.

Silver Lining:

While the Congress will see its seat tally come down, there is a silver lining in store for the party: most in Karnataka want the JD(S)-BSP combine to lend its support to the Congress while 39 per cent want the JD(S)-BJP to tie up with the Congress in case of a hung Assembly and barely 29 per cent want the party to ally with BJP.

For the India Today-Karvy Insights opinion poll, a total of 27,919 interviews were conducted across all of Karnataka's 224 constituencies that will vote in the upcoming Assembly election on May 12. As many as 62 per cent of the interviews were in rural areas, the remaining in urban centres.

Other Key Takeaways

Congress Should Get Second Chance:

A substantial 45 per cent of votes feel that Siddaramaiah-led Congress government in Karnataka should be given another chance.

Support for giving the party a second chance is particularly high among Muslims (65 per cent).

Among Hindus 44 per cent feel Congress deserves a second chance. According to the caste-wise breakup, 55 per cent Kurubas and 53 per cent Dalits believe Congress should get a second chance. Only 37 per cent Lingayat and 36 per cent Brahmins believe the same.

Issues of Concern:

Unemployment seems to be the biggest issue of concern in Karnataka with 22 per cent of respondents saying it is an issue that concerns them the most.

Price rise, corruption and lack of access to drinking water are among the other top issues of concern, according to the India Today-Karvy Insights opinion poll.

Siddaramaiah’s Performance Card:

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has scored fairly well after being in power for five years.

About 38 per cent of people have rated the performance of Siddaramaiah as very good or good while another 31 per cent have rated it average.

Only less than 30 per cent feel that Siddaramaiah's performance is not up to the mark.

The perception that Siddaramaiah's performance has been very good or good and is relatively weaker among the Vokkaliga, Lingayats and Brahmins.

This is an old poll and shows some inclinations towards BJP.

C-Fore poll survey have been far more accurate since 15 years and they predict an absolute majority for Indian National Congress. Moreover BJP has lost credibility and the recent rape cases in Unnao and Kathua will have a negative impact.

BJP leaders know that they wont get more than 80 seats in assembly election.Thats why Amit Shah visiting every nook and corner of Karnataka and seeking blessings of Swamijies! He knows very well that inspite of his or PM Modi's visits, CM Siddaramayya will be a winner. Because Siddaramayya is quite strong to confront Amit Shah and PM Modi. JDS is king maker. Finally Congress and JDS will form a new Govt in Karnataka!

In today's day and age most Opinion polls are biased towards one or the other party irrespective of what these pollsters claim. Someone has rightly said these are not 'Opinion' polls but they are 'Opinion making' polls implying that they are done to influence undecided voters in a direction they wish to swing them but doing so in a manner where the poll gives an appearance of being realistic to avoid being exposed as 'biased'. This Karvy poll certainly has some pro BJP flavour in it. It wants to influence voters to show BJP can come to power if the JDS supports it as it is known that the JDS are more likely to tie up with the BJP than with the Congress.
BJP have no worthy leaders in Karnataka which is why BJP central leaders like Amit Shah, Yogi, Javadekar, RS Prasad etc. are coming in the State to campaign and even yesterday when India Today TV channel were showing the Karvy poll results there was not a single Karnataka BJP leader on the discussion panel. All BJP members were from the centre. However, for the Congress, state leaders like Dinesh Gundurao, DK Shivkumar and BK Hariprasad were on the panel.
Congress party and CM Siddu have given Karnataka a stable government with a reasonably very good performance in most areas of governance including communal harmony. Congress party deserves to be voted to power in Karnataka in May 2018.

Congress Is likely to lose another 10 to 15 days mainly because this survey was done when there was false hipe that congress will lead in the state. In coming days people will realise about Congresses vote catching empty schemes. Empty schemes only takes state 40 years back without progress .Rahul is just interested reinstating this government and he has no other intrest looks like . Rahul is only giving messages to public but does not say what has he done as opposition leader to expose BJP . Bjp May get another 10 To 15 seats more as they are yet to pick up the phase. JD(S) may get few more seats. Kumaraswamy if goes with congress both will fall as theres zero trust between them and they will fight daily . if he goes with BJP he can gain. But If he plays tricks as he played with BJP in past then he will fall down to zero. Kumarawamy must realise alliance means trust and development .If Kumaraswamy Has evil thoughts from beginning then better not to enter into such alliance. This is the last chance for Kumaramy. Theres good prospects for Him if he keeps trust and thus rebuild the party sothat next election he can win independently but if he plays games that's the end and no more . People still like Kumaramy but he must reciproprate peoples trust by keeping Alliance intact and rebuilding the party and giving development . If He and gowda troubles his Partner on daily basis then allince will fall within short time. So be careful what you do . Do not be stupid and be wise

One such survey 'India Today' pro BJP Channel did prior to Uttar Pradesh assembly elections. It is BJP strategy prior to PM Modi's election campaigns.

JD(S) and BJP are the two bedtime partners. JD(S) opportunist political party can change side like it formed government in the past with BJP.

As far as BJP, it will try to play the same card in North Eastern state to keep the Congress out of ruling despite Congress is the largest party.

So it is time for Kannadigas to think twice in the interest of the state to vote wisely. We Kannadigas don't want hung assembly which may invite for another 'operation Kamala'. We Kannadigas don't want cow politics also.
What we need is inclusion of every Kannadigas. Health, security, housing and food is our basic demand.

The Karvy poll was bjp's poll which was leaked 15 days before in which they the bjp's have predicted 100 for Congress.

The C Voters have predicted a comfortable victory for Congress DID YOU PERCEIVED THAT. NO.

Congress is the clear winner and the BJP's will lose miserably.

Congress under Siddharamaiah performed considerable achievements and developments to Karnataka.

AND CONGRESS IS THE ONLY ONE PARTY WHICH DEVELOPS INDIA.

TODAY CHAAIWAALA TRAVELLED IN DELHI METRO WHICH HE NEVER TOUCHED AND DEVELOPED.

CHAIWAALA IS JUST INAUGURATING WHAT THE UPA /CONGRESS PLANNED AND DEVELOPED.
