Riyadh: Vatican's Cardinal Jean Louis Tauran arrives in Saudi Arabia

Riyadh, Apr 14 : Cardinal Jean-Louis Pierre Tauran and his accompanying delegation arrived in Riyadh on Friday, April 13.

The cardinal was received by Prince Mohammed bin Abdurrahman bin Abdulaziz, Riyadh Deputy Governor and the Secretary General of the Muslim World League, Dr Mohammed bin Abdul-Kareem Al-Issa.

Cardinal Jean-Louis Pierre Tauran is the president of the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue in the Vatican State.

    Very shortly after the event, King Fahd established the Hai’a/Mutaween (religious police), giving the Kingdom a unique character.

    The planned city NEOM will change the Kingdom even further. The city will be under a separate set of laws.

    But King Abdulla started re-establishing relationship with people of other religions. This trend has been taken to a new level under King Salman.

    I won't be surprised if Pope Francis receives an invitation to visit Saudi Arabia in the next two years.

    It is heartening to note that a predominantly Muslim country, Saudi Arabia allows Pope's emissary to visit its kingdom. Thanks to Saudi rulers!
    It is however, sad & unfortunate, our Prime Minister Modi did not allow the Pope to visit India. He did not even give assurance to Cardinal Gracias to allow the Pope to visit our secular country. How unfortunate? What impression world will get about our country which is supposed to be a country having religious freedom?

    great news.Certainly SA has realised that some changes are needed if their country and its citizens to give a new hope and modernization to come up.It cant go the same way as in the past.Welcome and God bless SA.May be he has come to talk in the matter of a mangalorean person is convicted for many years without his own fault?Or was it in other gulf country.?anyway lets pray for a happy end.

    An official visit of a Cardinal to Riyadh that is being embraced by the Deputy Governor of Riyadh is certainly a new chapter in Saudi Arabia that deserves to be applauded with a grateful heart. This is certainly a delightful blessings for Saudi Arabia and the rest of the Christian world.

    Mutual respect for each religion is a welcome gesture of the Kingdom where no other religion was allowed to practice other than Islam. This is a welcome change for the Kingdom that will enable the world to appreciate positive changes in the Kingdom where everyone will benefit.

    In the olden days, Aramco in the Eastern Province was only able to allow Christian faith to be practiced with as much low profile as possible. Friday was the only day where the Church service was made available with discrete arrangements, and the life moved along without any murmur. Now a new era will begin in Saudi Arabia and the people of all faiths will be able to practice their faith as discretely as possible with best of respect for each other.

    Thank you, Saudi Arabia, for your kind generosity of thought and good will for other faiths. We shall have more loyalty and affection for the Kingdom because you deserve the best from all of us.

    Religious freedom is one of the fundamental right of human on this earth. I believe Saudi learned in a very hard way of this after a very long long time. Next build all religious houses every corner in saudi so that hindus Muslims Christians buddist all these people can work and worship in saudi without muttavas policing for strict ing practice of worship.

    We see sea changes in Saudi Arabia since the young prince Salman took over the control and one can expect more such changes. Allowing women for driving and to take part in sports, arresting businessmen and politicians on corruption charges, contacts with Israel, opening movie theaters and latest being Cardinal’s visit besides giving surprising and shocking statements every now and then which were unheard in Saudi Arabia till reently. Saudis were frequenting Baharain and Dubai for fun and entertainment which they can now have in their own backyard. The young mind has determined to remodel his country’s image of conservative country to modern country.

    Almost all the countries in the world have religious freedom except S. Arabia. Let us all pray and hope that there will be full religious freedom in S. Arabia. The current rulers there are pragmatic and tolerant.

    Really very very glad to see the cross. Indeed its a good sign. I was there in Saudi for almost 21 years and I know the persecution..... How scared we were to gather for prayers.
