Udupi, Apr 15: An FIR has been filed against a youth for allegedly violating the election code of conduct by asking people to vote for BJP through social media and sharing derogatory content against Congress.
The accused, Akshay P Shetty, had posted content on social media with political clippings from a web page called 'Trishul'. He also shared allegedly derogatory content against Congress that were posted in Udupi BJP social media group, and urged people to vote for the BJP by posting pro-BJP pictures.
Noticing Akshay's posts, complainant Pramod S R sent an email to the election commissioner as well to the deputy commissioner about Akshay and urged for action against him. Both the officials accepted the complaint and directed Udupi flying squad official Dayanand Bennur to register an FIR against Akshay.
Accordingly, Udupi police have registered a case against Akshay under the Representation of People's Act 1951 and 1998.
