Kundapur: Two college students drown in lake after collecting hall tickets

Kundapur, April 23: In a tragic incident, two degree students who got down for bath in the lake of Kotilingeshwara Temple, Koteshwar near here drowned on Monday, April 23. The body of one student has been found.

Keerthan (19), son of Senapur from Raju Marakala, a student of first year B A and Sachin (19) from Kalavara, a student of B Com are the deceased. Both of them were students of Kageri Government College, Koteshwar.



The college had declared holidays for the last few days to prepare for examinations. The students had gone to the college to get hall tickets. They had obtained hall ticket in the morning and had been to the temple to spend some time, instead of returning home.

Three students including Sachin and Keerthan had gone near the temple lake. Sachin and Keerthan got in to the lake for bath. One student sat on the banks of the lake. As he did not see the students coming up for some time, he informed local people.

Fire service personnel, who came to the spot, searched far and wide for the students and found the dead body of Keerthan. The search for Sachin is in progress.

Kundapur station inspector Harish and staff arrived at the place.

Hundreds of people gathered at the post after hearing about the tragedy.

    It is sad and cannot be forgotten that these two young college students lost their lives in the most tragic way. May their souls RIP and give peace and comfort to the bereaved families and loved ones.

    Very sad. Why students, young people in spite of tragic incidents in waters, why opt out to lake waters.

    Request all religious, trust, private bodies, if they have lake under their purview, either build safety measures or close for public taking baths. Prevention is better than cure.
