Udupi, Sep 5: An autorickshaw driver was brutally assaulted by some miscreants at Kaup near here on Friday September 5.  

Auto driver Anil (31) was beaten by Yuvaraj, Nitin and others at Swapna Bar, located near Kaup on Thursday September 4  night.  Anil who suffered injuries was admitted to district government hospital. As he was recuperating there, the same miscreants arrived at the hospital and attacked him once again before scrapping his bandages, police sources informed.

Background:

Two groups which were involved in a rural game near Kaup on Independence Day had fought over a petty reason.  However, the problem was said to have been solved by the intervention of some local leaders on the same day. But locals said that both the groups were waiting for an opportunity to take revenge, which ultimately came to the fore with the attack on Anil

Kaup auto rickshaw owners and drivers association staged bundh in protest against the assault on their fellow driver.  They urged the Kaup police to bring to books all the alleged culprits at the earliest.
