Daiji Dubai Decennial Celebrations - Competitions for Konkani Writers and Playwrights

Dubai, Sep 7: Daiji Dubai, the Forum of Konkani Writers in the UAE, will be organizing various competitions on the occasion of its decennial celebrations. Besides these competitions a young konkani writer will be bestowed upon with the Daiji Yuva Puroskar of Rs 15,000 for the first time and for the tenth year in succession, Daiji Puroskar of Rs 50,000 will be given to a Konkani writer who has contributed for more than 25 years to konkani literature. The Forum wants Konkani writers and dramatists to take part in these competitions in large numbers.
1.Konkani Drama Competition-2009
Any Konkani team can take part in the competition in its name, by remitting an entry fee of Rs 500. Only eight teams will be provided with an opportunity to tke part in the event. Last date of registrtion is October 20 2008.
The plays can be their own, translated or transformed ones. However, their Konkani versions should not have been staged anywhere, so far. If they are translated, the groups should hold permission from the original author.
The plays should be of 120 to 150 minutes duration. One copy of the play should be delivered to the organizers before November 30, 2008. Plays listed for the competition will be staged every Sunday evening, starting from January 18, 2009 at the Don Bosco Hall, Mangalore.
The plays chosen to be the best, will be awarded first, second and third prizes of Rs 50,000, Rs 30,000 and Rs 20,000 in that order. In addition, three cash prizes for the best actor,actress and director besides permanent shields, will be awarded.
2. Daiji Yuva Puroskar - 2009
One writer from among those who have been involved with writing of Konkani literature in Kannada script, like short stories, poems, songs, novels, articles, reviews, research, translation services or authoring of plays for a minimum of five years, and who is less than 35 years of age, will be selected for conferring this award. Cash component of the award is Rs 15,000.
For this award, the eligible persons can send in their entries on their own, or through other persons. The applications need to contain name, address, contact telephone number and grounds on which the person deserves to be considered for the award. A proof about the candidate's date of birth should be enclosed. Last date for receipt of application for this award is September 30, 2008. The award will be announced in December this year.
3. Competition for Konkani Playwrights - 2008
The dramas which are independently and recently written, with a duration of 50 to 60 minutes duration, can be submitted for being considered for the award. Translated or transformed versions will not be considered. The writer's name and address should be furnished in a separate sheet.
Alongwith the copies of the play, a signed and dated declaration stating that "I have sent my drama titled (name of the play) to Daiji Dubai for being considered for the decennial celebrations award. In case this drama wins a prize at the competition, I hereby convey all rights on this drama for the next three years to Daiji Duibai," duly writing your name on the sheet.
The first prize winner will get Rs 10,000, the second placed drama will be awarded Rs 6,000 while the third prize will be Rs 4,000. The dramas which are considered worthy of appreciation, will be given special prizes. Last date for the entries to reach the organizers is October 30, 2008. The result will be announced in December this year.
4. Short Story Competition - 2008
Self-written, independent stories written in not more than 10 pages on full-scape sheets, containing more than 2,000 but less than 3,000 words, may be submitted for the competition. The entries should necessarily be in Kannada script. In a separate sheet attached to the entry, name of the writer, address and contact telephone number should be provided.
The stories submitted for being considered for the award, should not be sent to any other competitions or publications for the next two years. Daiji Dubai Publications reserves the right to publish the stories which are selected for the award. Last date for receiving the entries by organizers under this head, is October 30, 2008. Results will be announced in December this year.
Prizes: First - Rs 6,000, Second: Rs 4,000 and Third: Rs 3,000. Three consolation prizes of Rs 1,000 each will also be given.
