GMU UAE recognizes Thumbay Hospital Hyderabad as academic health centre

Ajman, May 5: Thumbay Hospital – Hyderabad, the leading multispecialty hospital under Thumbay Group’s healthcare division has been recognized as a teaching hospital by Gulf Medical University (GMU), Ajman, here. Following this recognition by GMU, Thumbay Hospital – Hyderabad is now an academic health centre under the Gulf Medical University Academic Health System (GMUAHS), the only private academic health system in the Middle East region.

• Doctors working at Thumbay Hospital Hyderabad will be eligible to get teaching faculty positions and will be designated as adjunct faculty of GMU.
• GMU will facilitate student and faculty exchange programmes with the hospital.
• Joint research and development activities will be enabled.

Being part of the GMUAHS will facilitate a range of exchanges between GMU and Thumbay Hospital – Hyderabad, including teaching and learning opportunities, training and faculty development, student training as well as joint conferences and workshops. The recognition will also strengthen the hospital’s healthcare delivery systems, human resources and public health education.

Prof Hossam Hamdy, chancellor of GMU said that the recognition accorded to Thumbay Hospital – Hyderabad was the latest among efforts to increase the global footprint of GMUAHS through collaborations with globally renowned universities and hospitals. “Thumbay Hospital – Hyderabad is one of the leading academic hospitals in India. I am confident that as an academic health center, the hospital will further improve its high standards of care delivery and facilitate professional development envisioned by GMU,” he said. “This also opens up more opportunities for GMU students’ clinical training and improves their career prospects,” he added.

The National Board of Examinations (NBE), the autonomous academic body under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India had recently recognized Thumbay Hospital as a teaching hospital to conduct DNB (Diplomate of National Board) medicine programmes. The recognition has been accorded for the three year post-graduate DNB courses in the departments of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, General Medicine and Anaesthesiology.
