Mangaluru, May 8: A former local BJP leader from Mangaluru while campaigning for independent candidate Srikar Prabhu questioned the need for BJP to have candidates if they seek votes in the name of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Addressing women voters in a programme organised at C V Nayak hall in Bunts Hostel on May 6, former BJP district Mahila Morcha member Prasanna Ravi said that though she was an admirer of PM Modi like others people should vote based on the candidate's performance in the constituency.
Addressing the BJP, she said, "This is a state election. Let us look at Modi later and vote for candidates depending on their developmental activities in their constituency. If we have to vote looking at Modi, then why do you need to have candidates in all the constituencies in the polls? Why do you need an MLA candidate?
"Work in your constituency and then seek votes. Only when the election is approaching, you play Hindutva card just to grab votes, use religion as a tool to manipulate the electorate and also seek vote in the name of Modi," she said.
Srikar Prabhu who was expelled from BJP after 2014 Lok Sabha polls for anti-party activities, is contesting the upcoming assembly election from Mangaluru South constituency as an independent. A 49-year-old BA, LLB graduate, Prabhu served as BJP's Dakshina Kannada district chief secretary, Mangaluru South president, and state working committee member.
