Mangaluru, May 9: Superintendent of police (SP) Ravikanthe Gowda on Wednesday, May 9, said that security has been beefed up ahead of elections within district police limits.
Addressing media Ravikanthe Gowda said, "We have made certain security arrangements ahead of the elections. We have identified rowdy elements known for instigating communal violence and imposed security measures against them. Two externment orders have been passed against Kaleel and Ratnakar Shetty, both from Kalladka for three months. Police along with revenue department have identified a few vulnerable areas. We have also conducted a meeting with Kasargod deputy commissioner,”
“After the model code of conduct was implemented, eight inter-state and 24 inter-district check posts were set up out of which 21 are manned by revenue department along with central paramilitary force. We are checking vehicles which look suspicious and noting down the details. CCTV cameras have been set up at inter-state check posts. To assure security at sensitive polling stations, central paramilitary forces have been deployed,” he added.
"As many as 492 cases have been registered for violation of model code of conduct within the district police limits. Twenty-one cases of excise department, Rs 4 lac cash, 6.85 kg of ganja, 1,225 sarees, and 54.80 litres of liquor have been seized so far,” he informed.
"Within the district police limits, we have 981 polling stations for which 6 DySP, 14 inspectors, 40 PSI, 136 ASI, 870 head constables, 20 forest guards, 1,400 central paramilitary personnel, 3 KSRP, and 1 RAF platoon have been deployed,” he said.
