NEW DELHI, Sep 13: At least 20 people were killed and over 92 injured in a series of six explosions that rocked crowded marketplaces in the national capital almost at the same time on Saturday evening.
"Fourteen people were killed in the explosions and the toll could go up," Delhi Police spokesperson Rajan Bhagat said.
According to police 40 people were injured, while hospital sources said over 92 were admitted to various hospitals.
Police sources said the blasts took place at three places -- Karol Bagh, Connaught Place and Greater Kailash -- almost simultaneously at around 6:40 pm.
Indian Mujahideen militant outfit, believed to be a frontal organisation of banned SIMI, through a purported email, has claimed responsibility for the serial blasts.
The impact of the the blasts in Karol Bagh could be gauged by the fact that an auto was thrown up and got caught in the electrical wires.
In CP's Barakhamba Road, one of the bombs was suspected to be placed near Nirmal tower. The second blast took place near Gopal Das Bhavan and the third one in central park.
In the GK-I blast, two people were injured who were rushed to a nearby hospital. Eight to ten shops were damaged in the explosion that took place at around 6:40 pm. The bomb was suspectedly kept in a dustbin.
