Bengaluru, May 28: Ravi Gowda, the president of block Congress was raided by the Income tax officials on Sunday May 27 evening hours before the RR Nagar Assembly constituency went to poll.
The officials entered the house of Gowda near BDA Complex in Nagarbhavi around 4pm and searched it till 8.30 pm.
Gowda said that no money was recovered during the raid.
Local parliamentarian and Congress leader D K Suresh condemned the raid at a late-night press conference. He alleged that the IT department was misused by the BJP-led Union government and the sudden raid on Gowda was to tarnish the reputation of the Congress a day before the polling.
He also denied reports that crores of rupees in cash were seized from the house and said all the necessary documents had been submitted.
Responding to JD(S) allegations against the Congress candidate, Munirathna, he said, "We have joined hands with the JD(S) to form the government. We have not tied up to contest this election.”
Meanwhile, the BJP filed a complaint with the Election Commission following Congress’ press conference just hours before the polling.
