Mangaluru: MLA Vedavyas Kamath, MP Nalin visit rain-affected areas, assure all help

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SB)

Mangaluru, May 29: In the wake of torrential rains that wreaked havoc in Mangaluru on Monday May 29, MLA of Mangaluru South constituency Vedavyas Kamath visited rain-damaged areas and took stock of the situation the same evening.

The MLA who was in Bengaluru rushed back to the city and visited areas like Pandeshwar, Attavar 5th cross, Monkey Stand, Emmekere, Yekkur, Jeppinamogaru and Bejai. He assured central's government help for those who lost homes and property due to rain.

He monitored the arrangements made by the district administration and local bodies. He also urged BJP party workers and the public to help each other in difficult situations and coordinate with the police.

MP Nalin Kumar also visited several flood-affected areas in the city and evaluated the situation. Speaking to reporters, he said, "The district administration is ready to handle any situation, so there is no need to panic. In any difficult situation people can call the district administration and rescue teams by dialling the control room number. They can even call the MP (himself) and the MLA (Vedavyas Kamath) directly for help. Police and fire service are already doing their job. It is appreciable that locals are helping the police and the rescue teams in their efforts."

Earlier in the day, Vedavyas Kamath had urged people to stay indoors and not to panic. "Do not panic. Stay safe at home. Make sure your children reach home safely from school. If any of your family, friends are travelling towards Mangaluru, Inform them about the current situation and request not to travel unless it is an emergency. We are trying to take all nessecary actions. Once I am back from Bengaluru I will personally check the conditions of the city," he had said.

He had also tweeted about emergency numbers to contact at BJP office and said he was trying his best to respond to calls and messages on social media.

The Mayor, The MLAs, the sachivas of the Cong party made huge amounts of money from these contractors. As licenses were granted to new buildings in every nook and corner. The existing roads were gobbled up. The drainages were thinned. So its obvious that rain water will flow onto the roads and flood. Now being ousted, they would blame Modi. Wonder what will happen in July and August.

The nexus between the builders in the name of development are the main cause of the flooding in Mangalore. Earlier we never had such a problem of floods the rain water would all flow in the gutters and not on roads. But now because the buildings built without any planning and obstructing the gutters, drainage sewers and etc. causing problems to residential ares in the city. No projects should be given any permission without any development in drains.
