Mangaluru, May 31: People who were affected by the rain water, flooding their area near Pumpwell, protested against National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) on Thursday, May 31.

As per their complaint, the water which accumulated the day before yesterday due to rains, was still flooding their houses as the NHAI has blocked the way.

It is said that Highway Authority does not want the water to flow into the road and hence blocked the water. The protestors said this showed the lack of planning by the Highway Authority.

The protests were headed by Congress local corporator Asha D’Silva.

Sharan Pumpwell from Bajrang Dal also joined the protest.

Asha D’Silva said, "Even before the rains started, we had asked Highway Authority of India to address the problem as we knew it would pose problem during rainy days. But they did not take us seriously. Now we will not go home unless and until water is cleared from the area."

Vedavyas Kamath, MLA of Mangaluru South constituency visited Pumpwell where people were protesting since morning.

He inspected the blockade in the drainage and called the NHAI officials and the engineers concerned to the spot and directed them to solve the issue immediately. He also gve some tips to engineers to ensure smooth flow of water from low-lying places. He assured the public and the local corporator to resolve the problem without any delay and asked them to keep in touch with him if the work was not done.

MP Nalin Kumara Kateel and Shobha Karandlaje were busy in politics. They have no time to visit the Pumpwell circle site, Flyover, Ujjodi,Indiana Hospital, Gorigudda and many other flood affected areas. Thanks to daijiworld for giving a big coverage with the pictures of flood affected area. Except one or two no Kannada dailies covered the news properly. It shows how biased they are. New MLA Vedvyas Kamath came to the site late in the evening and started blaming J.R.Lobo and Corporator Asha D'Silva. He was accompanied by some BJP, BD, VHP leaders and others. Everybody started blaming Congress but none of them spoke about the delay of flyover by the NH Engineers. MLA Vedvyas Kamath is representing Mangalore South constituency and he should work for the whole area. BD/VHP people shouldnt interfere. If they come to the rescue of the people then its ok. But shouldnt play politics blaming previous MLA and his work. Will the NH Engineers remove all encroachments near Indiana Hospital by some shop keepers and traders?

Coastal karnataka cannot be governed from bangalore. For the development of the region we need our own state. The vokkaliga and lingayat lobbies in bangalore don't care a damn about coastal people. It's high time people from all communities seriously look into the Tulu Nadu state movement. If goa can be a state why not our region?

    Mr.Shetty,

What has state govt to do with NHAI,please go to arts college ,learn some politics .
Please don't blame simply Siddharamaiyya s govt.
Remember where were we during Yeddy tenure,we were brutally maligned by his chelas. Its Siddharamaiyya ji governance today brought so much affiliations,Go n check where else there is Indira canteen after Bengaluru and Mysuru.
And if there is new state ,we will get babaji ka tullu,Because Shah n team is eyeing most developed namma Bengaluru ,thats why they are power hungry. You know right now major economy booster for India is Bengaluru. We can't ditch for ur pseudo culturalism bengaluru.Go n check in past 5 years how many of our youths settled in Bengaluru .After gulf oil crisis ,youths are going to Bengaluru and in my relatives only all are getting basic 75k to 1lakh INR .That's called empowerment.Mangaluru is limited only for education ,freezones like IT,BT,electronic city can never be opened as its communallys ensitive.Culture cannot save our stomach hunger,we need rokka also.

HATS OFF TO SIDDHARAMAIYYA JI,HATS OFF TO KAI SARKAR.

Hello Mr. Shammi, Karnataka, If u call bengaluru has developed, can u tell in what way the development has effected to mangalore???. What is contribution of bengaluru to mangaluru. Only few youths from Dakshina kannada work in IT companies of bengaluru for small petty amounts. it's we NRI entrepreneurs who invest big amount here and transform mangalore. Be grateful to to people who work hard from gulf countries and other parts who contribute GDP of mangalore. Your Karnataka government is nowhere can be compared. Few development works in Mangaluru like footpaths and others are done by mangalore city corporation who collect huge taxes from real estate investors like us and the smart city projects

if we use the politics here then this problem wont solved. if you people blame central govt then what state govt was doing all these days. bcoz here the victims are people of karnatak state & in such a case state govt should take care of them. only blame game wont work. when this NH 66 project was started & who allotted this project to Navayug co? what was the accountability of Navayug? so here all the party involved & rather than current govt old govt was more accountable for this issue.

Medwin, Mulki: This Projected is being executed by the National Highway Authority of India(NHAI), which comes under the Central Government and not the State Government. The office of the NHAI is located near Pumpwell Circle near Indian Hospital. You visit that office and you will come to know the lethargy of those people working there. It is easy to blame the The State Government which is no way connected with this project and blaming them does not solve the problem. The State Government office is located at Urwa Stores, next to Ganesh Temple, which is PWD Division. Jai Hind.

Why do we have to go to the Highway to protest ? Even the drains in Falnir specially Sturrock road the drains are filled with water there is a lot of work happening on this road but no planning if it rains. The corporation should have planned if it rains even now when there is no rain for two days but still the drain is filled with water . Even in PVS area from Ram Bhavan to PVS circle the drains are filled with water even a three to four year old child falls in the drain will be drowned. The city corporation not bothered to clear the drains and the main cause for the flooding in various places in Mangalore on tuesday. It was all artificial flooding on the 29th May 2018.
