Dubai, Sep 16: The parishioners of St Francis Xavier Church, Ferar, celebrated Monti Fest, a feast of nativity of our Blessed Virgin Mary, with great devotion and enthusiasm, recently at Foodlands, Deira, Dubai.
The programme began at 9:30 pm with a welcome note by Norbert Sequeira, while Stinita Pereira read out the word of God. Children holding flower baskets offered flowers to the Mother, while the beat group sang 'Moriyek Hogolsiyam'.
Guests of honor Joseph Mathias and Roque Rego, were welcomed by Vincent Pereira, president of Ferarites, UAE, and Leslie Fernandes, treasurer, Ferarites, UAE, with flower bouquets. Pereira, also welcomed the gathering and lauded the support of sponsors. He said that the main purpose of Monti Fest was to celebrate the event as one family.
The chief guests spoke about the importance of the feast and recalled memories of celebrating the festival back home. The programme continued with variety entertainment such as songs, skits, and spot games. Lancy Noronha and his group (Shylan beat group) enthralled the audience with their melodious songs. Vinod Rodrigues, Leslie Fernandes, and Rajesh Rego, entertained the audience with their humorous skits.
The comperes of the evening Norbert Sequeira and Roshni D'Souza, kept the audience smiling with their humour. Blessed paddy mixed with milk was served to all those present, after the prayers conducted by Shyna Noronha. This was followed by the traditional 'Novem Jevan'.
A vegetarian dinner consisting of seven varieties of vegetables, prepared by Foodlands was followed by delicious 'vorn' which brought back sweet memories of home. 'Housie-housie' was conducted by Raja Sequeira. Prizes were given away to winners and participants of various events.
The senior citizens of Ferar who were on a leisure trip to Dubai were honoured with flower bouquets. Rajesh Rego rendered the vote of thanks and the programme concluded at 1 am.
