Mangaluru: J R Lobo hits back at critics blaming him for flooding; to approach court over EVMs

Mangaluru, Jun 2: Former MLA J R Lobo on Saturday June 2 hit back at critics, particular from the opposition party, for claiming that 'faulty' development works during his tenure resulted in heavy flooding in the city on May 29.

Addressing a press meet here, J R Lobo said, "The heavy rainfall that lashed Mangaluru flooded most parts of the city. But the opposition highlighted 'faulty' development works in the city and criticized me, branding me as the sole reason for the flooding in Mangaluru. How can I be responsible for the flooding when there is 24 cm of heavy rainfall? Not just Mangaluru, any city would have flooded with that amount of rainfall.

"We (MLAs) are the ones who bring funds for development works. There are technical committees, consultants and engineers to execute the plans. I am deeply hurt by the criticism of opposition members who have no technical knowledge about development works," he said.

"Places like Pumpwell, Kottara Chowki, Bajal and Padil underpass were waterlogged after the heavy rainfall. Did I criticise MP Nalin Kumar Kateel for it? How can he be responsible for the flooding just because he inaugurated Bajal- Padil underpass? Is he a member of technical committee? It is wrong to blame the MP for waterlogging in these areas. Technical committees, engineers, and consultants should take responsibility for this and they are the sole reason for the flooding in the city as they are the ones who design and execute the plans.

"When there is faulty development work on the part of the central government, the MP is not blamed, but when there is fault in the city, MLAs are criticised. Opposition has not even minimum knowledge about the process of development works. I will write a letter to Mangaluru City Corporation against the Infrastructure Development Foundation (IDF) to take stringent action and suspend the consultant. IDF is the techincal advisor as it has designed the development works in the city. I urge the opposition to have at least minimum knowledge on how the government and the MCC functions," Lobo said.

"Will approach court over EVMs"

The former MLA also raised suspicions about the electronic voter machines (EVMs) that were used in the recent assembly elections.

"The recently concluded elections have raised eyebrows because of the unexpected result in the coastal belt. I am not satisfied and I suspect the EVMs. I will go to court through my lawyer from Bengaluru. People are raising voices to bring back the ballot paper system in elections. Election should be held in such a way that everyone should be cent percent satisfied. I will approach the court against it and submit my protest letter. Let us see what the court decides on it," he said.

Mayor Bhaskar Moily, deputy mayor Mohammed, chief whip of MCC Shashidhar Hegde, Suresh Ballal and others were present.

All drains and canals are designed with basis of a particular flow and a particular volume in mind. This will be the maximum average and not occasional (flooding condition) volume. Now if you try filling a 5 liter bucket with 15Liters of water definitely there will be an overflow.

Stupid people dont even try to understand the science behind this issue and some people pretend not to understand so as to take advantage of the situation and gain political mileage (in simple words 'fool the common man'

Mr.Lobo you are just like Abhimanu in Chakravyuva when he learnt from his mothers womb in a half segment and other half he didn't listen but still he has the courage to enter the ring ! similarly you did your best to the people but people are very ignorant when its coming to the religion as we are very infamous of emotional fools. In politics there is no ethics at all and you know democray is all the way to set to die. Congress is suffering from a very strong and effective leader like Indira Ghandi, when the leader is strong and charismatic people will vote them and no one wants to follow a weak leader who dont have any knowledge of politics only reading the draft which made by the secretaries. Sonia reading the draft which is not digested by the common people along with her accent.

Mr.Lobo you are just a drop in the ocean and it doesn't make any sense though you are a good politician. The people observe congress party as a whole not as an individual and its all about team work and team spirit which is lacking in your party

Rightly said. Lobo is a good leader, a clean person, a real leader. Its unfortunate that Congress has failed to showcase faces, who have education, International standing, good experience within the Indian democracy and with a stronger thinking and responsive mindset. Remove the thought that One caste or or family only can lead Congress . Instead, all should belong to Congress and leaders must emerge by performance and acceptance by masses.

32 Centi Meters of rain in 6 hours as stated by the DC in his press conference will flood any city. The BJP as people have become wise are only indulging in Jhumla Politics. No substance. To blame JR Lobo for the deluge is very unfair indicative of only desperation on the part of the BJP for their attempts to conquer by stooping have failed.

There is no doubt that the EVM's are faulty and can be tampered as complaints after complaints have surfaced in every election since the last general election. Suprising are the results of the Coastal districts where the sitting MLA's of the Congress did a marvellous job for their contituencies and with widespred anger against the central Govt one can only conclude that the EVM's in the coastal districts have been hacked and tampered.

The EVM's in this selected areas could have been targetted so that a Halo can be built around the BJP campaigners especially the Chief Campaigner and credit given to him for this hacked victory for his visits to these areas.

Hope the Chief Election Commissioner and the three election commissioners will relise the gravity of the situation and restore Ballot Papers and discard theses faulty EVM's which can be easily tampered/hacked.

Before criticising ex MLA J.R.Lobo let BJP/VHP/BD come to Pumpwell Fylover's pathetic condition and talk. Look at the unscientific underpass at Padil. Where is MP Nalin Kumar Kateel? Is he still busy in Shiradi ghat? Did he ever visit the flood affected areas of Pumpwell,Ujjodi, Gorigudda, Padil etc? Did he ever speak to the DC, City Corporation Commissioner,? Did he contact NH Au turirities and the flyover contractors who sit in the ac rooms and never bothered about the poor people? Did he ever visite3d the encroachments by Indiana Hospital, Galaxy Creek, Nirmala Tyres, Ronson Service Centre, Metroof Industries, Bike Clinic, Sheetal Manor and other buildings? MLA Vedvyas Kamath visited for a short time and disappeared from the site. Instead of blaming J.R.Lobo, ex MLA and the local corporator Asha D'Silva, let BJP/VHP/BD leaders extend their support and also ask Vedvyas Kamath to speed up the work before another flood. People of Kankanady village are grateful to Corporator Asha D'Silva for her quick response. Today its because of DC, MCC Commissioner , local corporator Asha D'Silva and Ms Roopa, the drainage work started in a full swing inspite of some local people's non co-operation. NH,MCC engineers and some officers play double game. They are not bothered about the problems of the people.Even some media people, news reporters of leading Kannada dailies skip the reports! So people of Mangalore are thankful to daijiworld media which reach every nook and corner of the world.People dont trust the news reporters of any leading Kannada dailies published from Manipal or Mangalore. If BJP people criticise J.R.Lobo is responsible for the flood in his area, then who is respomsible for the havoc in Kottara Chowki, Padil underpass and other places? Will they answer? When MP Nalin Kumar Kateel will visit Pumpwell flyover site and call for a press meet?

How Mr. U.T. Kader will won only by around 20000 votes. He should have won by more margin.

EvM's used for Karnataka elections came from Gujarat, UP and Maharashtra. Machine which where given had not been properly reset from the past votes so, from initial start itself some percentage of vote was placed in it.

Why only BJP' ans want EVM's ?
Most of the parties have expressed their serious doubt on EVM's and demanding for ballot papers, whether their parties won or lost!
Population demography and their voting pattern in many of the constituencies, election results are very suspicious!
In Ullal like 100% sure constituencies, hackers will not take risk to make people believe EVM's.
In 2019, general election, let the elections be conducted in ballot papers. Let's see who wins!

Unlike yet another under construction flyover collapses in PM Modi’s own constituency, South Mangalore where Mr.Lobo has represented has no such incidents proves that it is not quality of construction but the poor handling of civic services is the reason.
It is impossible for human being to stop such amount of downpour in short time. The critics should know that Mangalore Lok Sabha constituency is under BJP ruling since 1991 for last 25 years. All the central government aided development should be the responsibility of the sitting MP who is only interest in buring the district.
How Mr.Lobo should be responsible for the storm water obstruction of the national highway authority?
Karnataka Elections 2018: ‘Over 2,400 VVPAT Machines Malfunctioned’

A “very high” percentage of voter-verifiable paper audit trail (VVPAT) machines deployed in the elections in Karnataka on May 12 malfunctioned either minutes before the polling started or during the polling. The Election Commission put the figure at 4.18 % of the total 57,786 VVPAT machines deployed.

“The percentage of VVPATs that developed snag is very high. However, the percentage is still lower than the acceptable limit of 5%,” Chief Electoral Officer Sanjiv Kumar told reporters here on May13. In all, 2,419 VVPAT machines developed technical glitches, of which 1,702 were during the polling. Instances of polling getting disrupted owing to glitches in VVPAT machines or EVMs had been reported from across the State.
There are a total of 5,06,90,538 votes of 4.19% faults that translate in to 2118864.49 of votes.
There are absolutely no records of which EVMs were actually used for elections, how many are defective or defunct, why and which different models were deployed, who has approved these different models, the type of software-hardware used and whether they are hack-proof, whether the software is dedicated (exclusive) or purchased from the market, etc
I would ask Mr. Lobo to file case in Supreme court on EVM?

Development means development of the people first and not development of roads alone. Faulty development is not development at all. The road from Alake to Car Street is being constructed for the last 5 years, first it was land acquisition, then the road, then the footpath and drain, and last was the bridge. Why should it take such a long time? People all along this stretch have suffered for the last 5 years. Business has perished and then the main "todu" overflowed. Glossy booklets for election purposes did not serve the purpose, people saw through the game. The affected people should sue the Municipal Corporation and recover damages from the responsible officials as well as politicians. Only then a repeat of the destruction will not happen next year.

Dear Lobo, dont worry opposition job is to bark only as they have never done anything good, If a sincere , Qualified MLA like you cannot Win the election, God only Knows what will happen of India and State.
As we people only elect corrput MLA,MP etc and then blame our self for not doing anything for the
    development

Lobo Sir, every one knows that opposition BJP party fit for nothing. They are cunning mind people. Every Mangaloreans knows that you are the only person clean and development thinking guy. But only thing is that you are not so strong to fight with opposition as you are simple and soft spoken person.

Today we need strong outspoken leader in Mangalore to fight with BJP.

You mean the EVMs used there at Mandya, Mysore where Congress candidates won were also tampered ? There they were able to win irrespective of tampered EVMs. Right !!?? If EVMs were tampered Yeddyurappa would have been chief minister. Why he was not able to ?

You don't have a least technical knowledge about EVMs like BJP guys who have lacked a least knowledge of how MCC works.

You are an able candidate and you are supposed to win for the betterment of Mangalore. But you are in a wrong party which don't like to see progress and rejected by people.

Congress is in power since Independence man..... Why all problems still existed ? Don't google for excuses. It is quite open and clear that people rejected Congress.

if everything go according to the plan...these people take credit of there own. Otherwise won't take a single second to blame on technical team. relax lobo sir...relax.instead of conducting such conferences to prove yourself not guilty..visit those areas which affected by recent rain and do something useful.
It not means..if you loose the election your duty is finished. After all you are public representative came to politics on your wish. Otherwise job of pilukula was the best.
