Mangaluru, Jun 3: In a gruesome accident that took place late night on Saturday, June 2, a car occupied by medical students collided with an autorickshaw near Yenepoya hospital, Kukkudakatte under Ullal police station limits. The driver of the autorickshaw was seriously injured in the incident and the passengers in the autorickshaw were also injured.

Divakar (35), driver of the autorickshaw and resident of Asaigoli is the one who has suffered severe injuries. He was ferrying passengers from Deralakatte and moving towards Siliconia Apartments in Kuthar. The car which was occupied by medical students was being driven recklessly at high speed by a medical student. It collided head-on with the autorickshaw. The autorickshaw was badly damaged in the collision.

It took some time for the locals to remove the driver from autorickshaw as he was stuck in the driver's seat inside the auto rickshaw. He has received severe injuries to his head and legs and is admitted to K S Hegde Hospital at Deralakatte. The three passengers of the autorickshaw stand admitted to Yenepoya Hospital.

Rash driving is reason

The locals have accused that reckless and high-speed driving by the medical student who was returning after partying is the reason for this head-on collision. It is alleged that the car was being driven on the wrong side. The locals, who accused the driver of the car as drunk took him to task and thrashed him. In the midst of the melee between the locals and the driver of the car, Alwyn D'Souza, Congress leader got injured and was admitted to the hospital. He also made the medical student, driver of the car, to sit in his own car and prevented the locals from thrashing him further.

In addition, Alwyn informed Ullal police about the accident. Ullal police and traffic police south, have registered a case in this regard.

The locals are accusing that students are having weekend parties on Saturdays and are causing inconvenience to other vehicles. This is the second accident in the same spot in the last three days.

Autorickshaw driver Divakar is an employee of Yenepoya in the daytime and drives autorickshaw in the evening. This mishap took place when he was taking the passengers as per his normal routine.

They say that car collided with Auto Rickshaw. If you see the images carefully, car is damaged in the rear and Auto is damaged right in front. Just because Rickshaw driver is hurt does not mean he was right.
I am not in favor of Medical students they are always "Bade baap ki bigede huve Awlad". And these rickshaw drivers are also not saints they always drive auto like a formula one car. Whoever is the culprit should be punished. Let Justice prevail.
