Dubai, Sep 16: Pamboor Welfare Association, UAE, celebrated the Feast of the Nativity of our Lady, "Monthi Fest," in a traditional way at Winny's Restaurant, Karama, on Friday September 12 evening. The celebration started with a short procession, carrying the statue of Mother Mary, followed by little children and teenagers, holding colourful flowers singing the traditional hymn,'Sokkad Sangata Melyam,' and gathered around the Bambino (Statue of Infant Mother). Sunita Menezes conducted a prayer session, after which the children joyfully showered flower petals on Mother Mary as the gathering sang the hymn 'Moriyek hogoll shiyam". 'Novem' with milk was served to the entire gathering and sweets were distributed to all the children.
During the stage programme, president Daniel Saldanha welcomed the gathering. Veronica Alva delivered a beautiful speech on the 'Importance of Mother Marry in our lives'. Fr Freddie D'Souza, assistant parish priest of St Mary's Church, Dubai in his meaningful message, stressed the importance of this family festival and wished all a happy feast.
The evening was filled with variety of entertainment programmes like scintillating filmy dances from Aaron, Delna, Ashley, Bianca and Delia. Versatile and talented singers Ashok, Sunitha, Diany and Johnsy presented some of the best entertaining and melodious Konkani numbers. Vijay, Daniel, Kevin and Ashwin entertained the crowd with some fun filled skits. Well known musician and keyboard player James Fernandes provided the background music.
Housie Housie was conducted by Kishore. Vote of thanks was proposed by the secretary Agnel. Raviraj, the young and energetic compere, took charge of the evening and kept the gathering alive with wonderful games.
At the end, "Novem Jevan" was prepared by Winny's Restaurant, served on traditional "shiratyo" (banana leaves) and was enjoyed by the gathering of around 125 people.
