Mangaluru: 853 loads of Illegal sand stocks worth Rs 35 lacs seized

Mangaluru, Jun 6: In a joint operation conducted by the police personnel of Bajpe station here with the officials of the mines and geology department on Tuesday June 5, spots, where sand extracted illegally was stored, were raided. 853 loads of sand worth about Rs 35 lac were seized.

After getting information on Tuesday morning that illegally mined sand was stored at different spots within their limits, Bajpe police launched operation immediately. 313 loads of sand was found in Badagulipady village, 233 loads in Narlapadavu, Mogaru village, and 307 loads from near Moodu Ferar church were confiscated.

A special team formed for the purpose led by assistant commissioner of police, Gopalakrishna Nayak and inspectors, Parashivamurthy and K Srinivas, guided by city police commissioner, Vipul Kumar, and deputy commissioners of police, Hanumantharaya and Uma Prashanth, conducted this operation. Rajashekhar, inspector of the cyber cell police station, geologist, B K Murthy, village accountants, Muttappa and Dinesh, central crime branch police sub-inspector, Kabbalraj, and others were present.

    Riverbeds are full of sand. Make it available without restrictions so that people can build housed at a lower cost. Why hike price of commodity locally available with labels like "mines and geology department" as all these exist to become rich themselves.

    Why can't people use the sand which is naturally available ? Let govt make some rules if they want. On the other hand Siddu govt imported sand from Malaysia and projected it as achievement. Heights of finding ways to loot !

    Was the sand stored in 'non-man's-land' and the cash floating around ? Please let the readers know who were in possession of this smuggled sand.

    I totally agree with you. Now these politicians have no power after the recent election. that is the reason all these illegal activities are being traced & raided by the police. earlier even police dept had no power to control this illegal sand mafia.
