Byndoor, Jun 7: Scores of students on Thursday June 7 protested in front of the taluk office and then at the office of the Byndoor MLA opposing suspension of KSRTC bus services from Byndoor to surrounding areas. Ultimately, MLA B M Sukumar Shetty assured that the bus services would be resumed immediately.
"Rural places like Maddodi, Kallanki, Ganganadu, Nagaramakki, Goliberu, Atyadi, Thoodalli, Hosuru, Alandoor, Kullanki, Saranki, Kadki, Udoor, Jathkal, Niroodi, Ettaberu, Thondemakki etc are between ten to fifteen kilometres away from Byndoor. There are no transport facilities there. People have to walk to Byndoor through a forest area.
"Therefore, the former MLA and president of KSRTC K Gopal Poojary had provided government buses here. The services were stopped all of a sudden a couple of days ago. They should be resumed immediately," urged the protesters in the appeal submitted to the MLA.
After receiving the memorandum from the students, Sukumar Shetty said, "KSRTC buses which were plying from Byndoor to surrounding areas and which were suspended will be resumed immediately."
The said the service were suspended as the buses were introduced in haste without getting approval from transport authority.
"I have spoken to the deputy commissioner and district controller of KSRTC requesting to permit buses on a temporary basis on the condition that permits are obtained. The officials have responded positively to the request. If the service cannot be resumed for any reason, private buses will be put into service," he assured.
Former president of Yadthare gram panchayat Nagayya Shetty led the protest.
