Attacks on Churches: Karnataka govt orders CoD probe

Agencies

Bangalore, Sep 18: Karnataka government on Thursday ordered a probe by the elite Corps of Detectives (CoD) into the series of attacks on Christian prayer halls in the state, saying it wanted an "impartial inquiry" into the communal violence.

"Government wants to ensure impartial inquiry into the incidents of communal violence in the state and book the culprits", Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa told reporters after a cabinet meeting.

"We expect the CoD inquiry to be completed in about two months' time", he said, adding that he was "shocked and pained" by the attacks on churches.

Yeddyurappa said he has directed the police to provide 24-hour patrolling in the cities affected by communal tension, and also provide security to places of worship particularly belonging to the minorities.

The Chief Minister said that his government was taking all steps to ensure peace and harmony in the state but "some anti-government forces are trying to fish in troubled waters".

Without naming opposition parties, Yeddyurappa said "they are not only disturbing peace and tranquillity in the state but also trying to make use of the disturbance for their political gain. This is highly objectionable".

"This is the time to work together to restore peace and harmony and bring normalcy back in the society. Instead of working towards normalcy, some people are playing politics and using the situation for their political gain," he said.

Yeddyurappa also said police has been directed to make preventive arrests in sensitive places.

Dear Editor Daijiworld.....you are doing an excellent job reporting to the world,I would like to suggest if you could get together a group of private (unbiased)investigators from both communities and launch your own undercover invistigations into the group behind this attacks and also reasons for police brutalities. This will be the perfect lesson for the authorities and a great service to the mangalorean community.

I have this to say to our leaders, be one do not be lead which is the case clearly indicative by the words and action so far. To the small time police officials who try to impress their political bosses, if you need to be truely respected by your family and community get smart by performing your duties as least learn from the neighbourhood pet dogs...you may learn a lesson or two.

Guys.. Mr.CM is showin what his govt is. This is nothing special. It was expected of him and his so called govt. What else would he do to save his skin and his chair. If he was so worried he and devastated by the way he is saying he would have asked the central govt to conduct the inquiry and punish the guilty which in this case were his own govt led people.

Dear CM, 2 Months is not needed to conduct / complete an enquiry. This is been done to safe guard the Hindu / Sangh Parivars so that his Govt doesnot fall. The result of this enquiry can be judged now itself, why wait for 2 months.

Hey mr. CM!, everyone knows who's behind these attacks and what was their motive. And what ur CoDs will find out after two months also can be guessed. You should release the innocent catholic youths who tried to protect the church, first.. Showing brutality to the poor and weak is not the sign of stength, but it is the sign of 100% pure COWARDICE... u try to understand...

We have no faith in your government nor in your empty words Mr Yeddyurappa. Which police protection are you talking about? Did you read the article "Nuns and women expose Mangalore police brutality"? I wonder what the Central government is doing at this point in time when Indians from all over the world are sending petitions for peace and order in the country. Will necessary measures be taken soon or is it a 'wait and watch' game.

Why our cheif Minster making public fool, this attack is purely backed by BJP, without the government involment no body cannot attack the churches all over south canara, it is started from m'lore to all over near by place. it is very sad to know that also in spite of all the protest all over the contry and overseas still these guys are continue to attack churches. surprisingly no body has been arrested or filed case agaist these groups. then why our cm is telling that case will be handled by COD. There is one big case is pending with cod that is Ragupthi Bhat's wife murder case . till now postmartem report has been not produced to the court. finally we have to just forget being minority in the state we will justice.

When the Bajrang dal leader has publicly proclaimed on TV that his goons carried out these attacks, why two months are needed for enquiry. The Bajrang dal started the first wave, the police the second and now there are enough vultures/cowards who will settle old scores by taking this opportunity.
