HDK sees nothing wrong in giving higher education portfolio to 'class 8 pass' minister

Bengaluru, Jun 9 (PTI): "What have I studied? I'm working as the chief minister" - this was Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy response today as he dismissed questions on allocating Higher Education portfolio to a minister who has studied till class 8.

Kumaraswamy, who holds a BSc degree, was asked about JD(S) minister G T Devegowda reportedly being upset at being given the higher education portfolio, especially as his own formal education has been limited.

G T Devegowda, who emerged as a giant killer defeating former chief minister Siddaramaiah in Chamundeshwari constituency in Mysuru in the May 12 assembly polls, was said to be eyeing key portfolios, according to party sources.

Reacting to the issue, Kumaraswamy, 59, said, "Some people will have wish to work in certain departments, but in every department there is opportunity to work efficiently. We have to work efficiently.

"Is there a better department than Higher Education and Minor Irrigation to work?"

On reported comments by G T Devegowda about being given Higher Education, when he was just studied till eighth standard, the chief minister said, "What have I studied? I'm working as the chief minister.

"Should I give Finance?"....there will be demand for certain ministries, but certain decisions are made internally in the party," he told reporters here, adding that such wishes of becoming a minister first and then wanting certain specific portfolios are common.

Earlier, the chief minister had drawn flak for saying he was at the "mercy" of the Congress and not the people. Kumaraswamy later said he never meant to show disrespect to the people of the state."What I meant was so long as they (Congress) support me I can continue. So, whatever programmes we have to pursue, I will be at the mercy of Congress."

Kumaraswamy had last night allocated portfolios but it has left some upset including G T Devegowda and C S Puttaraju, who got the Minor Irrigation portfolio.

Kumaraswamy retained the key Finance department, as also Energy with him while giving Home to his deputy G Parameshwara of the Congress.

The chief minister had inducted 25 new ministers on June 6, including those from his party JD(S), Congress, BSP, and the fledgling KPJP.

The JD(S) leader became the chief minister after the Congress offered support to the party keep out the BJP. In the 225-member Assembly, including one nominated, the Congress has 78 MLAs, the JDS has 36 and the BJP 104, with three others.

HDK, you have made a stupid decision to make 8th std. paas incharge of post graduate education and made all Kannadigas a laughing stock of the world. You will have more respect at least if you try to work in a proper way this time round.

I don't see this is an issue now after what we went with Feku Maharaja's qualification. if a Feke degree holder can become the PM of this country and someone with 6 days course in Yale Uni, can hold HR ministry of Government of India, then I don't see anything wrong in this state level minister. As far as I remember, the only person who endorsed Feku Maharaj's certificate is a genius sitting in the library of an Uni in Sydney. No one else believes Feku Maharaj had degree while meditating in Himalayas.

There is nothing wrong in appointing 8 pass as minister of education if he is honest, sincere and dedicated and hard working. . There has been instances of MBA graduates indulging in unethical practices in corporate also several I.A.S officers are corrupt to the core. Jnanpith award winner Dr. Kota Shivaram Karanth did not complete formal education but his knowledge was far better than many PhD holders. Mere holding degree certificates does not mean that he is having knowledge.

Kumaranna, don't bother about critics. You should follow the footsteps of your father honorable Deve Gowdaji, who still active in politics although he step down from PM post since 21 years. He never compromise his stand even though he knew that he will loosing the battle !!!!!!!!!!!.

By allotting the Higher Education ministry to someone who has passed the 8th standard, the CM has demonstrated in no uncertain terms the lack of importance he is giving this portfolio. It is a tragedy of our times that highly qualified people will have to bow down to this illiterate fellow and take orders from him. For that matter, even when the PM allotted this ministry to someone who had bluffed that she had a degree from a foreign university, he had also made a mockery of that department. Of course, naturally, the minister in question made a hash of the portfolio and messed up everything before she was given the marching orders.

The question is out of 6 crores Kannadigas JD(S) can't find one educated person? The minister may have personal reasons to discontinue his education due to his financial woos. But did the state didn't deserve a qualified education minister who can take questions from educated and reply smartly?

I would rather say he should be given Agriculture or Muzari department. At the same time I would also like to appreciate his honesty declaring true education qualifications unlike BJP MLA's.

It should be noted that in recently concluded Karnataka assembly Yeddyurappa affidavit, he was College graduate in 2013, becomes Class 12 pass in 2018. I wonder why his candidacy is not disqualified for filing fake information.

I have said several times, in politics we don't need illiterates.

Since 2014 we the Indians are facing an illiterate S.S.L.C., failed Chaaiwaala who walks while the Russian National Anthem was played. and sung.

Similarly, in the states we don't want 8th standard for Education Minister.

Dear Kumaraswamy kindly remove this guy and replace an Educated for the Education Minister immediately.
