Udupi, Jun 10: In a tragic incident, senior athlete Jyothi Shetty passed away a day after meeting with an accident near Ambagilu here.

Jyothi Shetty (50) was riding pillion with her brother when the accident took place on Saturday June 9. Jyothi was admitted to hospital with critical head injuries and breathed her last on Sunday June 10.

It is learnt that Saturday, Jyothi had received a call from an acquaintance that he had met with an accident at Ambagilu. Jyothi along with her brother rushed to his help and took him to hospital. On the way back, the bike ridden by her brother skidded, due to which Jyothi fell on to the road and sustained serious injuries.

Last year she won two medals in Asia Masters Athletics Championships held in China. World Masters Athletics Championships held in Australia in 2016, she finished at the eighth spot.
