Puttur, Jun 13: Two persons were arrested by the special investigation team on the allegation of instigating a minor to misrepresent himself as a voter and try to cast vote on behalf of that person.

The arrested persons are Abbas from Alanthadka and Ibrahim from Pallathur. They have been accused of encouraging a person to cast vote on behalf of a person who was not in station.

An effort to hoodwink the polling officials had been made at Alanthadka polling booth in Nettanige Mudnooru village on May 12 this year. When a person tried to pose himself as Shaukat Ali, who was in a foreign country, a BJP agent had expressed doubts about the identity of the voter. A detailed verification of voter identity card revealed that the person who was trying to exercise franchise was not genuine.

As the person trying to cast fake vote was found to be minor, he was booked under Juvenile Justice Act and handed over to the possession of his parents. At that time, the rural police here had collected details of the voter identity card and people who had sent the boy, duly encouraging him to cast vote on behalf of a person who was not present.
