Bengaluru, Jun 13: The newly elected MLA of Jayanagar Sowmya Reddy, daughter of former minister Ramalinga Reddy, said that she is not an aspirant of ministerial berth.
Speaking to reporters after her victory against BJP's Prahlad, Sowmya said, "I have a dream to make Jayanagar as a model Vidhana Sabha constituency. My social work in my constituency is also one of the reasons for my victory. This is the victory of my father, family and every party worker,"
“Though it was Ramzan season, the Muslim brethren have worked for the party. JD(S) supremo H D Deve Gowda and CM H D Kumaraswamy too have supported me in this election. I thank the voters in my constituency for electing me and treating me as their own daughter," she added.
On a media query about her father not getting ministerial post, she said, "My father did not lobby for any post. He is not an aspirant of ministerial berth. Voters have elected him 7 times as an MLA and he has worked hard for the party. He never left his party and if he does not get a ministerial post, it is a loss for the part,"
“I will not take ministerial post if the party offers me. I want to serve people of my constituency. Neither I nor my father has demanded ministerial post. My father has worked efficiently during his term as minister. Let us work to make this a model constituency," she added.
Congress candidate Sowmya Reddy won the prestigious Jayanagar constituency in a tight fight against BJP's B N Prahlad by a margin of 2,889 votes. In the final round of counting, Soumya Reddy secured 54,457 votes, while BJP candidate Prahlad Babu garnered 51,568 votes.
BJP's B N Prahlad, brother of Vijayakumar, and senior Congress leader and former minister Ramalinga Reddy's daughter Soumya Reddy were locked in a direct contest for the seat. In all, nineteen candidates were in the fray. Ahead of polls, Janata Dal (S) had on June 5 pulled out its candidate from the contest and extended the party's support to its ruling coalition partner Congress.
