Kasargod, Jun 19: The district and sessions court on Monday June 19 convicted a man of murdering a boy and sentenced him to rigorous life imprisonment.
Vijayan (31) from Periya Kannoth has been convicted of murdering 8-year-old Mohammed Fahad, son of Abbas and Ayesha, residents of Periya.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on Vijayan, failure to pay which will invite another three years of imprisonment, as per the court order.
The incident took place on July 9, 2015 when Vijayan stabbed Fahad while he was heading towards his school along with sister. Fahad was a class 3 student at Kaliyath government higher secondary school.
Though Fahad tried to escape, Vijayan stabbed him multiple times and fled from the spot. The boy was immediately taken to a nearby government hospital but was declared dead later.
Hours after the crime, the locals nabbed the accused and handed him over to the Bekal police.
The police investigation revealed that Vijayan had stabbed the boy in revenge against his father over an old rivalry.
Hosadurga circle inspector U Preman probed the case and filed chargesheet at Hosadurga judicial court. Out of 60 witnesses, statements of 36 including Fahad's sister were recorded.
Additional public prosecutor P Raghavan represented the prosecution.
