Mangaluru, Jun 20: A day after daijiworld published a detailed report on the airport road at Bondel that has become a 'death trap' due to the frequent accidents, the traffic police took serious note of the issue and placed barricades here on Wednesday June 20.
Daijiworld had on Tuesday June 19 had published a report on the road near Bondel church where several accidents have taken place. A shocking video of a two-wheeler rider miraculously escaping with a minor injury after ramming into a car on the airport road had highlighted the risk of travelling down the stretch that has been witnessing frequent accidents.
Following the accident, residents of the area had blamed the traffic police department for not taking adequate action in the matter. They had also demanded barricades to be installed on Bondel-Padavinangady stretch and warned of protest by blocking the road if the demand was not met.
A day after daijiworld's detailed report on the perils posed by the road, traffic cop Harishekar visited the spot and placed barricades, and also gave road directions to the locals present on the occasion.
Speaking to daijiworld, traffic ACP Manjunath Shetty said, "Taking cognizance of the danger posed by speeding vehicles, and the demand of the public, we placed the barricades today. We are not able to place speed-breakers on the airport road due to technical issues, but out of safety concern, we have placed barricades.
"The barricades will have to removed during the night. We have informed the management of the school in the area to remove the barricades at the end of the day and place them back in the morning. The school management has assured us full cooperation," he said.
Here's hoping that the barricades help in at least bringing down the frequency of accidents on the stretch.
