Mangaluru: Father of slain RTI activist Vinayak Baliga passes away

Mangaluru, Jun 21: B Ramachandra Baliga, the father of slain RTI activist Vinayak Baliga, passed away here on the night of Thursday June 21. He was 87.

Baliga was suffering from old age-related ailments and breathed his last at around 8 pm.

Ramachandra Baliga had been fighting for justice for his RTI activist son who was brutaly murdered on March 21, 2016. He had approached the highest court of the land for justice and did not live to see it delivered. His predeceased wife had passed away last year.

The bereaved family has four daughters now. Shwetha, the eldest who has two grown up children. Usha, the next one is married and stays at Mumbai. The two younger dauthers Anuradha and Harsha are unmarried and are continuing the battles for justice that their brother had started and also justice for him.

The cremation will be at Boloor crematorium and the last rites will be performed at his residence near PVS Kala Kunj at 10 am on Friday June 22, said rationalist Prof Narendra Nayak.

Prof Narendra Nayak in a press note said that Ramachandra Baliga had been pining for his son during his period of illness and was even hallucinating about him, calling out his name in delirium.

    Very sad that a father died pining for his son who was MURDERED for fighting against injustice.
    I sincerely hope and pray that Vinayak's murderers will be punished by God. The judicial system is but a puppet in the ruling party's hands. Shame on the judiciary.

    Vinayak Baliga was a daring person who tried fighting against this corrupt society managed by so called very affluential class...who killed him fearing their exposure,ppl like Narendra Nayak and other organisations fighting for justice are truly Godly and let justice prevail as early as possible...to tell other ppl in this society that Baliga's fight for corrupt ppl in organisations doesn't go wasted.

    Delay in justice is the greatest malady . It gives rise to host of other social problems. Look at the souls that depart waiting for justice years together. So disgusting to call ourselves a democracy. Criminals spread their tentacles without any fear of law because the system that punishes the criminal is as good as non-existing

    Gsbians always remained kind,compassionate to miseries of the society quality inherited by ancestors...never looked for name or fame while serving deprived class...irrespective of caste creed ...Here is a family of its own lived within city limits and now in disaster.Prof. Nayak is the only ray of hope for them as it looks now.God bless him even though he is an ethist.

    Our Judicial system has failed to give justice to Baliga's father... Even police dept. has not proceeded further with proper way to punish the culprits... this is really mockery of our democracy and human rights.... Hell with this mindset and attitude of our system....

    RIP Baligamam.... No one should come across this situation in life.... Only son murdered for some good work done to society and his aged father alive and fought the case for justice till his last breath.... Culprits will be punished by Almighty before they end up their life in this world - Not by Law but by God...

    No wonder a few days' back somebody came inquiring where Prof. Nayak is staying.

    It is sad that we allowed and are allowing a family to suffer injustice because we are politically aligned or religiously aligned. We have forgotten humanity is mother of all religions and truth and justice is the motto.

    Mangaloreans had a great name for their civic sense and prudence. The religious intolerance poison dissolved it all.

    Really sad incident !
    Vinayak Baliga was brutally killed for fighting for the truth ! Has any political party provide support to his family to bring justice to the blood that was shed ?

    Very sad to read all this. My heart goes out to this family. They need whatever help people can render. Particularly distressing is the fact that two unmarried daughters are trying to get justice. All good hearted people especially lawyers should introspect and come to this family's aid. I appeal to everyone to come forward and support Prof. Narendra Nayak.
