Belagavi, Jun 26: BJP MP Suresh Angadi on Tuesday blamed the Congress for dividing Hindus and Muslims by renaming the Haj Bhavan after Tipu Sultan.
His comments have come in the wake of ongoing controversy involving Minority and Wakf Minister Zameer Ahmed Khan after he made a statement that there was a proposal to name the Haj Bhavan after Tipu Sultan.
Zameer’s statement however did not go down well with the BJP leaders who openly blamed him of supporting a traitor and anti-national like Tipu Sultan.
Suresh Angadi while speaking to media persons on June 26 in Belagavi said that Congress was conspiring to divide Hindus and Muslims by naming the Haj Bhavan in Bengaluru after Tipu Sultan.

"The Haj Bhavan was sanctioned during B S Yeddyurappa's government. The Congress could instead, have chosen to name it after former president Dr A P J Abdul Kalam, a patriot and scientist. Congress wants to gain political mileage out of it. Congress's culture is to divide and rule. In Kashmir, its leaders Ghulam Nabi Azad and Saifuddin Soz have been making anti-India statements and encouraging stone pelting," he alleged.
Earlier BJP senior leader and former CM B S Yeddyurappa too suggested the state government to rename the Haj Bhavan after former president APJ Abdul Kalam.
However, Zameer said that there was a demand by religious leaders and others to name Haj house as ‘Hazrat Tipu Sultan Haj Ghar’ and he would discuss about renaming the Haj Bhavan with the chief minister and deputy chief minister before taking a final decision.
