Sullia, Jun 27: In connection with the kidnap and rape of a lone woman returning home from dairy on the evening of Monday June 25 at Chokkady, Amaramudnur village in the taluk, Bellare police have taken three persons into custody.
The police have also confiscated two auto rickshaws, which were reportedly used by the culprits. As per information gathered, one of the persons taken into custody is a coolie, while the other two are auto rickshaw drivers. It is said that all the three belong to Amaramudnur village.
The lady said in her complaint that she was returning home after delivering milk to a milk producers’ society at Sheni, when three persons who came in auto rickshaws from the direction of Chokkady forcibly took her away to a rubber plantation at Chokkady where she was gang-raped by them. She said she was gagged by the culprits and that she was threatened with death if she dared to tell what she went through to her family members.
The accused had thereafter dropped off the woman at Sheni. The elder brother of the lady observed this and questioned her. As such, the rape incident came to be known to the lady's family members, after which a complaint was filed in Bellare police station.
