By-elections are my priority: Deshpande

DHNS

Bangalore, Sep 26: Newly-appointed KPCC president R V Deshpande on Thursday said his immediate challenge would be the forthcoming byelections and the long-term test was the bring the Congress back to power in the state.

Speaking to DHNS, the former minister said he was confident of his success in his twin objectives with the support of the junior and senior colleagues of the party and the party workers.

Asserting that the Congress had polled more vote per centage than the ruling BJP in the recently concluded Assembly elections, he said it would not be difficult to bring the party back to power.Asked about senior party leader Siddaramaiah, he said the former deputy chief minister was an old friend and added that he would to him shortly to seek his co-operation. He said he would seek the support and co-operation of all in the parties.
He is presently undergoing naturopathy treatment at the Jindal hospital in Bangalore.

Pleasant surprise

For 46-year-old D K Shivakumar, the appointment as working president has come as a pleasant surprise.

Field work

Asked how different his responsibility would be different from that of the President, Shivakumar said his post would expect him to do field work.

The work load between the president and working president would be divided.
Asked what message the high command was sending by appointing him (a Vokkaliga) as the working president, Shivakumar said, “I don’t represent Vokkaliga community. I represent the Congress party and the old and new generation. I have proved my mettle on many occasion including during the AICC session of Bangalore. I was the architect of Panchajanya tour.”

Mr. R.V.Deshpande congratulations being the President of Congress Party for karnataka State. I am sure you will win the confident of Karnakatka people. But in the meantime have a close contact with Me Siddaramayaha, since he is also a far sighted man of Congress.

It seems to be a probationary period for Sri Deshpande till by elections. If the Congress wins he may be confirmed or else...If any other person was apponted it would have been difficult for Congress to dislodge that person due to caste arithmetic. It appears to be a calculated move by High Command.
