Udupi, Jun 27: In a sudden move, the president and the members of Udupi district child welfare committee resigned here on Wednesday June 27.

President Ronald Furtado and four members of the committee which comes under the district administration have resigned.

They claimed that the district administration was not supporting them in their work, hence there was no option but to resign.

The committee mainly focuses on children rescued from child labour, prostitution, begging etc and who are deprived of education.

Speaking to daijiworld, Ronald Furtado said that the rescued children are sent to the Bal Mandir in Nittur for rehabilitation, for which the district admintration's assistance is required. "The district administration does not respond to our requests for assistance. Several times we have approached the DC regarding this issue, still there has been no response. Hence we have resigned today," he said.

Meanwhile, Udupi DC Priyanka Francis called a meeting in this regard and reportedly spoke about forming a new committee with the same members. "We will see what happens next," Ronald Furtado told daijiworld.
