Udupi, Jun 28: Udupi MLA Raghupati Bhat on Thursday June 28 inspected the facilities at Koosamma Shambhu Shetty Memorial Haji Abdullah Mother and Child Hospital here built by NRI entrepreneur B R Shetty in collaboration with the Karnataka government.
He visited different wards of the hospital, checked the advanced medical technologies, instruments installed there and interacted with surgeons.
Speaking to the reporters after the inspection, Bhat said, "Udupi now has a hi-tech hospital. The government should undertake its administration. I had objections regarding the MoU between Dr B R Shetty and the government. There is a need to be make changes in the MoU. Government should play a role in the administration of the 200-bed hospital. People should make use of the hospital facilities and it should benefit people of the weaker sections of the society," he stressed.
Answering a query regarding the employment of the staff of the old government mother and child hospital, he said that he has to hold discussions with the authority concerned. The permanent staff and gynecologists will be appointed in other hospitals."
Dr Jagadish Sharma, medical superintendent of the hospital said, "All patients will get free treatment with high quality service. Aadhaar card number is needed. Everyone will get free treatment without discrimination. The hospital now has a scanning centre, blood test and lab test facilities. From the reception, patients will be accompanied by a staff till the concerned ward. We aim at providing quality medical facilities here.
"There are five gynecologists, three paediatricians, four duty doctors and 57 nurses serving in different wards over here. For now the treatment is started in out-patient department. Over 160 patients come here every day to get treatment. Patients from other districts visit here also," he said.
"For temporary period, UHID registration process is going on in old government mother and child hospital. From there, patients will be referred to new hospital. Vaccinations and periodical injections (Immunization) for babies will not be given. Once everything is set legally and technically, patient admission process will start," he added.
Explaining the facilities at the hospital, Dr Sharma said that in first floor, there is reception, pharmacy, laboratory, X-ray, emergency and canteen, central stores, engineering services and parking.
The second floor has paediatric OPD, ICTC, obstetrics/gynecology OPD, treatment room, ultrasound, medical record department, day care centre, family planning ward, immunization clinic, discharge charge center and admission counter.
In the third floor, there are surgical intensive care unit, operation theatres, CSSD, labour ward and labour rooms.
Neo-natal intensive care unit, paediatric intensive care unit, medical intensive care unit, isolation room, paediatric ward and nutrition rehabilitation clinic are in the fourth floor.
Ante-natal ward and post-natal ward are in the fifth floor, and administration office and gynecology ward in the sixth floor.
Udupi zilla panchayat president Dinakar Babu, vice-president Sheela K Shetty, taluk panchayat presidnt Nalini Pradeep Rao, Yashpal Suvarna and others were present.
