Udupi, Jul 4: It is said that all the other Swamijis associated with the Maths which have been managing Sri Krishna Math by way of Paryaya system of rotation, have decided to see that Sri Lakshmivara Theertha Swamiji steps down from his position as the head of Shiroor Math here. The spiritual heads of the Maths have come to the conclusion that the way in which the said Swamiji conducted himself in various matters of late does not behove of the high tradition the spiritual heads of these Maths are expected to maintain and follow.

As per information, Swamijis of the other Maths had recently held a secret meeting. It is said that the Swamijis have taken a decision not to return the idol of the presiding deity of Shiroor Math, which is currently in Sri Krishna Math, to Sri Lakshmivara Theertha Swamiji unless he adopts a disciple as his successor.

Differences had cropped up between the Shiroor Swamiji and others on various issues as Shiroor Swamiji has often tried to break the traditions. The eight Maths here have been following the system of 'pairing' of Maths. Sode Math, which is the pairing Math for Shiroor Math and therefore has some say in various matters pertaining to the other Math, has often expressed dissatisfaction about the way in which Shiroor Swamiji has conducted himself.

Recently, Shiroor Swamiji's endeavour to fight the assembly election and speaking lightly about the Swamijis of the eight Maths, which was recorded on video, have come in for bitter criticism from other Swamijis. The way in which Sri Lakshmivara Theertha Swamiji made derogatory statement against senior-most of the Swamijis, Sri Vishweshateertha Swamiji of Pejawar Math, has angered the Swamijis. In this backdrop, it is said, the other Swamijis have together decided against parting with the presiding deity of Shiroor Math till he complies with the above condition.
