Bengaluru, Jul 17: Deputy chief minister of Karnataka, Dr G Parameshwar, said that he has issued strict instructions to cyber crime police to take stringent action against those indulging in spreading of false rumours about child traffickers. These instructions were issued in the backdrop of a number of incidents involving innocent people being beaten up or killed by villagers who have become panicky about strangers visiting villages, as they perceive them to be involved with thefts of children.

Speaking to media persons at Vidhana Soudha on Monday July 16, the DCM said that in the incident which happened near Bidar a few days ago, a crowd had attacked innocent people on the presumption that they were here to lift the children. This had caused death of one and critical injuries to two. "Such incidents have been recurring. Relating to Bidar incidents, 13 persons have been arrested so far," he explained.

Parameshwar stated that while the government would be taking action against the guilty, cyber crime department police will be acting against those who spread false messages through social websites and create apprehension and confusion in the minds of people.

When questioned about the allegation about north Karnataka having been neglected in the state budget, he said that it would have to be studied as to how much has been spent on different regions, when his comment was sought in response to recent statement of Deve Gowda’s statement.
