Udupi, Jul 18: Under the directions of the district administration here, Kaup police had registered first information reports against the project director in the department of national highways, and also contractors of highway construction, Navayuga Infrastructure. The administration had taken this step, having been fed up by the inertia owned by these parties, regardless of the fact that there have been innumerable complaints about improper road works and plethora of accidents on national highway 66.
Contracting firm Navayuga has undertaken the work of filling of potholes on the national highway on a war footing now. It also has taken steps to clear the dividers of weeds, grass and other unwanted growth.
Many highway users had complained to the district administration about the accidents occurring on national highway 66 because of unscientific four-laning work, substandard work, and insufficient service roads and crossings. Navayuga officials and highway officials had been summoned to the office and warned to take corrective action, but this step too had failed to evoke prompt response.
The district administration, noting the seriousness of the lapses after a portion in the middle of the highway at Muloor suffered depression, which also subsequently gave rise to collision of vehicles, had asked Kaup tahasildar to register police complaint against the concerned.
