Mysore, Oct 5: The Dasara Air Show captivated over 50,000 people gathered at the Torchlight Parade Grounds in Bannimantap here this morning with an array of metal birds of IAF flying past, leaving the assembled crowd in sheer bewilderment gaping at their amazing speed and maneuvers.

The show took off with aero- modelling by Adarsh from Bangalore with remote controlled tiny aeroplanes and helicopters whizzing over the heads of the crowd.

Three IAF helicopters arrived and hovered for some time to assess the weather conditions. A microlight aircraft too appeared and left. Three helicopters were brought and stationed in the grounds for public viewing.

A Chetak Helicopter of IAF arrived over the grounds with about eight commandoes slithering down ropes hung from the hovering copter. Next to arrive was another helicopter with four commandoes clinging to the ropes suspended from the copter providing an awesome spectacle.

Three Jaguar fighter bombers of IAF, flew past at a breathtaking speed of about 1300 kmph in visible range. The most delightful sight was eight paratroopers, members of Akashganga, skydiving from an aeroplane and descending on the ground performing scintillating somersaults enroute.

The finale with armymen making unbelievable stunts riding on bikes with over 10 persons on each was an awesome spectacle.

The Police had a hectic time in controlling the surging crowd. About 3,000 personnel from KSRP, CAR, Mounted Company and Traffic Police were deputed for security assisted by Rapid Action Force personnel.

Air Marshal V.R. Iyer, Lok Sabha Members C.H. Vijaya-shankar and M. Shivanna, Deputy Commissioner P. Mani-vannan, Police Commissioner Dr. S. Parashivamurthy, MLA H.S. Shankaralingegowda, MLCs Thontadarya and Sidda-raju and the Air Show Sub-Committee members were present.

District in-charge Minister Shobha Karandlaje inaugurated the Air Show by operating an aeromodel.

Once again Bannimantap Gardens has become a center of attraction with this spectacular Air Show.In olden days of Dasara, then Maharajas used to rest in this Gardens after those Jamboo savari and kawayath, the day of Vijayadashami. After the death of Maharaja and abolition of privy purses, this Bannimantap bcame no man's land without any activity. Now with this Airshow,it has the name now. Thanks to the local administration.
